Goodbye, Final Fantasy...
Log On > Loading screen > NPC A >loading screen > 5-15 min airship > City 2 > NPC B > loading screen > NPC A > Logout.
Does that make the game more fun for you?
It doesn't matter if the airship is instant or it takes an hour, the problem is that there's nothing fun or exciting on the other side of that ride. Wait until they add more reasons to take this ride then we can complain about it. Adding time sinks just to hide the lack of content just makes a bad game. If the world was actually full of things to do then we wouldn't be having this argument.
Loading is part of the game, therefor when you log in is irrelevant to taking a 5-15 minute airship. This is not wow, there is anima for instant travel. like jynx said you guys are going to lose in the end, this game needs immersion, your crappy whining and ideas are dumbing us down.Log On > Loading screen > NPC A >loading screen > 5-15 min airship > City 2 > NPC B > loading screen > NPC A > Logout.

This is not FFXI either. I played it for years and its now old and stale. If any of your arguments were actually true then the ferry between thanalan and limsa would be crowded everyday. Give me a time sink that i can interact with and have fun then i would 100% agree with jynx.Loading is part of the game, therefor when you log in is irrelevant to taking a 5-15 minute airship. Duming it down is literally looking at a screen for no reason because there's nothing to do. If they implement something to do on the airship, fine! As of right now, there is no way to make the argument for forcing people to watch a pointless cutscene a better one. There just isn't. It would be bad game design to do such a thing. Thankfully Naoki Yoshida is producing this. He actually gets it. He even understands the whole "immersion" thing, that's why you still have the option to view the cutscene.Loading is part of the game, therefor when you log in is irrelevant to taking a 5-15 minute airship. God this whole thread is a waste of my time.
Now, I'm only going to speak for myself here but I have to tell you. I don't find boat/airship rides that are longer then load screens immersive. they, in fact, are the opposite as I take the time imprisoned on them to make tea, phone calls or play with my cat.
People talk about immersion a lot without thinking of it as a personal experience much like fun. What is immersive for you is ruining immersion for me. So can people stop using it as a valid argument for one side of things or another? If they wanted me immersed in XIV they would get rid of the lag and take out all of the random farm animals doing nothing across the world. Maybe take out the copy paste and add some NPCs that travel the world.
That's why having both methods of transportation is a great thing. Even I enjoy riding them once, twice or even on a rare full moon. The rest of the time they kill my fun. Games shouldn't kill my fun =(

all mmorpg's had these features this is no the same dev team and even they would have made a 5-10 minute ride therefore get over it... you did not complain about ffxi's airships why now? this is not ffxi but immersion allows me to feel like i'm still playing a mmo, so you guys will lose. Now, I'm only going to speak for myself here but I have to tell you. Yoshi p! make a poll please or better yet get the mods to tell you to make the ride 20 minutes long just to spite the complainers.
