In most of my runs I usually let the dps choose what they want to do: I don't usually mind if they want a full clear or not. All I ever care whenever I enter a dungeon, raid or whatnot is the completion of it and only in rare cases I ask for a particular thing: overall I never had that many issues and all I ever needed to do is ask.

Although, if the DPS starts to treat me like a tool for having the decency of asking them what they want, for then bashing me in return "because I was supposed to know", I simply leave and let them wait for another tank.

Afterall, if I'm the issue I shouldn't hinder their progress, am I correct? I mean, they can easily wait for another tank that suit their needs, while I can INSTANTLY get into another dungeon and do what I need to do: It's a win win situation!

Except that it could've been avoided if they told me from the beginning what they wanted...oh well, c'est la vie!

most people do low level content in speedrun fashion nowadays. so they probably like DPS who tries to clear as fast as possible more than some tank full of ego who takes too long to pull everything and also refuses to help the others after they pulled because they can't wait for the sluggish tank.

I vote kicked some tanks like that and the others agreed to dismiss them.

Group efforts requiring communication and compromise... Go figure. Let's not forget its a two way street though.

Just popping in here to say that as a damage dealer, I had countless frustrating experiences when I was new to the game where the tank would just charge ahead, refuse to explain anything, and flame me for not being able to keep up, making mistakes, or accidentally pulling enemies, even though he could obviously see the newcomer symbol on me and my low level and gear and I tried multiple times to ask politely if he could take it a bit slower.

I'm pretty sure a lot of other people have the same experience as me. It's absolutely no surprise that they get fed up with it and end up being rude to tanks who actually would have listened.

I actually had a few similar experiences when I first started playing (I started as a dps) myself, so I know the feeling, and tanks who do that still frustrate me. You can even look at my post history and you'll see that I made a thread a while back where I really gave hell to a group who kicked a newbie out of Praetorium because he got lost for a moment. I absolutely cannot stand when people do things like that to new people. I know I was tempted to give up and quit the game after the bad experiences as a new person. I'm sure the thought has crossed the minds of other new people as well.

I am not naive enough to believe that the way we are treated by the community does not have an effect on our attitudes towards it in general. Going in with a bad attitude towards people as individuals from the beginning is not the answer though, this situation was a prime example of that.

Silent skepticism on his part would have been preferable to immediately being verbally abusive and abusive gameplaywise towards me though. Asking nicely for what he wanted would have been even better, he would have found me very agreeable. As humans, we have the ability of self control. We also have a tendency to react badly to a lack of respect. Losing your self control towards an individual before even being shown any disrespect by that individual is inexcusable behavior.

I know I am skeptical but civil with people in each dungeon I'm in at first. I let them have time to give me either a good impression or a bad impression before I make the call on how they are going to act though, and even if they are going to act like children, I still try to be civil (as I did here by offering them a reasonable compromise and refusing to make demands of them or coerce them with griefing tactics even though they continued to demand of me and grief me). The DPS in this situation barely gave the cut scene/loading screen time to end before he made his intent known, however.

These threads are ridiculous... I understand why the majority of players who know about the forums avoid it.

Self-entitled tanks stop being self-entitled in Duty Finder. Just as you would easily let them die for pulling extra mobs that you want to skip because you feel like being a jerk just for the sake of being a jerk, they could've just let you die with those nine mobs you pulled. If you want to dictate the rules for a dungeon, make a Party Finder group. Otherwise, stop being rude along with your sad attempt at trying to find justification for your hypocrisy on here.
