Connecting the DoTs: A Summoner Guide

Hello Fellow SMNs,

I have an A4S progression issue, and I know some of you are there with me. When adds spawn, I bane from the leg to the Straf doll, then Tri-D/Painflare/Fester my add and have DWT available at that point. Generally I will pop it and ruin 3 spam either the add or leg, but I find myself in the scenario where I am losing aggro on certain adds to our WHM, who uses Shroud on other adds. Some times it is so severe that I can get the add down to 20% and be more or less ready to feed, and the WHM still has aggro.

Should I just be blowing my Deathflare ASAP to try to take back aggro, or is there something else going on here?

I do not have Foes.

Should I simply not be taking an add? Help!

I would say your WHM may have an issue on his aggro. I don't Summoner in this fight but you generate as much threat as any DPS. I would also assume Deathflare on the Strafdoll + Leg is probably smarter.

I just hit lv60 on Summoner/Scholar and to be honest, I'm enjoying summoner a lot more than I did before since tri-disaster is a thing.

I'm practicing on a training dummy and when I gain 3 stacks of Aetherflow, am I suppose to Fester whenever its up and then DT?

when you open you build 3 aethertrial stacks, use aetherflow again so you can fester while in dreadwyrm trance, and from there, you wanna delay your festers so that youll be able to use aetherflow (and its abilities) while entering dreadwyrm trance again.

To expand on that, basic Aetherflow/trail relationship is as follows:

Opener to get to DWT -> 1/2 Festers in DWT depending on preferred opener -> 1/2 Festers staggered out -> (enter DWT when Aetherflow comes back, use 2 Festers within it -> stagger out final Fester so that Aethertrail has less than 10s remaining, usually after the first Bio that gets refreshed) X N

Adjust based on Bane/Painflare and push timing requirements per the fight.

what should an i200 smn be pulling on dummy over 4 min with no food, pots, or party bonus?
i've been looking for parse vids for reference but almost every single one of them uses either food, pots, or both

I think the simplest way to find out how you stack up to your references is to whip out your Chocobo, go to the MB and buy some food/pots, then go to Summerford and do some testing.

So after spending some time in A4S, I've come to realize I hate this fight. To many times, I feel I have to save Tri-Disaster for example, to make checks or kill things in a timely fashion (EX: Quarantine). However, I also feel it's hurting my DPS significantly. If I don't save it, let's say for quarantine along with three AF stacks, than the tank has a high chance of dying in quarantine.

On top of the fact, burning AF to use as many EDs as I've had to in this fight is saddening to say the least (eating 3 mana drains total). Curious at what some of the SMNs have been doing both strat wise and where that's leaving them in DPS relative to the fight.
