The opener I preach is pretty easy IMO, it's in the OP, or you can try Haven's and see if you find you get more damage out of that.

Basic priorities of a SMN in single target fights, which should help you understand what an opener should look like:

- Use 3 stacks, stretched out. 2 in DWT (unless your opener doesn't allow for this on the first DWT), 1 when Aethertrail is sub-10s so you can keep Aethertrail up until your next Aetherflow.
- Cast as many R3s in DWT as humanly possible. Use 3D in DWT, don't use Shadow Flare in DWT (depending on opener it should line up fine regardless).
- Use Rouse/Spur on CD, Enkindle also used on CD but you may wish to be more selective about its use.
- ROUGH priority for stacks: 3+ target Bane > 2 target Bane with buffed + Contagioned DoTs that will live long enough > Painflare on 2+ targets > Fester >>>> Painflare/Energy Drain (mostly used for burst if you absolutely need it, like ending a fight suddenly or killing an add who will otherwise wipe the group). This is just a loose guideline of your priority; there are exceptions based on how long enemies will live and other requirements per the fight. About 90% of the time you will just use Fester with the occasional Bane.

Just a note painflare is very good if you are about to lose atunement and

1. Target is about to go immune, and fester is on CD.
2. Target has just reappeared, but you do not have time to apply 3 dots.

Also I dunno if anyone has brought it up but you can waste tri-disaster if you fester too quickly (like spam it) right as you cast it.

The dots do apply much faster than bio does, but it still takes about 0.5 seconds or so.

Especially on Ravana it happens often that I sit on 3-5s Ätherflow (II) or (I) right when he returns.. Painflare -> 30s.
But I hope most ppl know.


Quick question: Does the stances of ravana behave like VULN-stacks or debuffs? I.e. DoTs do 'big' damage as long as they are applied while attack stance or DoTs doing 'normal' dmg when applied before he switches to DEF-stance?

If you read my explanation you see i did exactly that but egi just didn't care.
I put it on obey, then placed it next to target and then attacked said target and still he went for the boss.

I didn't say hit obey, place it next to the target, and then start attacking. I said hit obey while the enemy you want it to attack is targeted. Your method could very well have your pet attacking the boss because of how Guard works (or you had simply already been attacking the boss yourself), and nothing you did will make it switch. Hitting Obey while you have a target selected sends your pet at it.

You need to target the enemy and then use Obey to force the Egi to attack that target. Just because you switch targets or move your Egi doesn't mean it will follow you, you have to use Sic or Obey if you want to command it to target a specific enemy after it has already engaged another.

Greetings, aspiring summoner here, want to make it my first dps class but i need help with something.
Is there any way to reliable control which target your egi goes for?
Today something happened that straight up killed the fun for me.

It was Amdapor Keep HM last boss.
As you might know you need to kill the adds fast at certain points or it is a 1shot dead. Now here came the issue.
Whatever i did my pet refused, absolutely refused to attack the add half the time.
I went as far as putting it on obey, placing him next to the add and attack the add first, yet he still was like "FUCK YOU I NEED TO KILL BOSS"
Needless to say, this worked incredible on my nerves since the dps wasn't already too amazing and him not attacking adds was basically a wipe.
