St. Daniffen is there more about him?

We use Daniffen's pass as a shortcut, sometimes fighting a big old Biast in it. Ishgard's defense system is called Daniffen's Collar. There's even St. Daniffen's Fire from the Ixali dailies we use to make parts for an airship. What I'd like to know who this Ishgardian Saint is. Is he a parrallel to Saint Elmos (fire) or is he a crack magician which devised ways to deal with dragons. Is there any more bits of lore I missed out as my interest has been piqued.

Okay then. that's what I'll do. I'll tell you a story. Can you hear them? All these people who lived in terror of you and your judgement. All these people who's ancestors devoted themselves to you, sacrificed themselves to you. Can you hear them singing?

He was a dragoon who liked stabbing fish.

    Daniffen's mark

The Ishgardian legend of Saint Daniffen tells us that the dragoon would oft practice his lancework on the shores of the mighty Coerthas River. To better his aim that it might always be true, he sought only the nimblest of seema to serve as his marks.

    He apparently killed The Basilisk.

Though an extremely important part of Ishgardian history, all I really know about him is that he was a Dragoon and traveled across the realm aiding the less fortunate. The pass is named for him because of the pilgrims that use it whilst retracing his steps. Based on the sheer number of things named for him, though, I imagine we'll be hearing more in Heavensward.

A thought occurs... what if Daniffen wasn't a dragoon, but a Dark Knight who was co-opted by the Ishgardians?

That would be pretty damn interesting.

It was said that one of the statues in Ishagrd will have a very important backstory to it.

I'm not sure if it's one of the statues in the steps of faith or in the top/rich portion of Ishgard

Most likely the statue is the one in Ishgard, because there are at least ten others there, and one of the key phrases they've teased us about is "twelve knights."

That said, who wants to double-down on all the dragonkillers in the Steps of Faith being the names of Saints too?!

That is most likely, since they bothered to name the towers in the first place

I ran Dzemael Darkhold a few days ago and noticed an area called, "The Alter to Saint Daniffen", which is also the Boss room for Batraal.

I wonder how that ties into his story. Though I guess it's actually more inline with the story of House Dzemael whom the Darkhold once belonged too.

Haldrath was most likely one of his father's twelve knights.

Haldrath was the son of the king who died and took up the lance in vengeance and pried out Nidhogg's eye(thus being the first Azure Dragoon), and there is a region in Coerthas (it was also in 1.0 I believe) called Haldrath's March.
