RMT /tells make you hate or ignore /tells

    Greetings all,

A few days ago while playing in a sleepy haze (leveling fishing will do that to you), I got a /tell from a real life friend. Another time I got /tell from a friend I'd made in game. Both times it took me a couple minutes to realise "oh wait that's not the usual RMT /tell spam, that's actual friend!"

Anyone else come to associate the /tell sound effect with RMT? At this point if I'm alt-tabbed from the game on the internet I ignore it as I figure it's RMT, or if I'm half-asleep I frequently miss it as there's no way to tell /tells from actual friends, and the constant RMT spam.

BTW SE you really need to up the ante on this, if I go into a lower level zone I'll get /tells from RMT's anywhere from several in a minute to one every couple of minutes.

LOL I am absolutely guilty of this. I usually don't pay attention unless I see the chat coming from FC

i made the /tell sound my text tone one my phone and while it helped keep from associating the sound to solely bots, i also get horribly confused when i get a text or tell when playing now. "was that my phone or the game??"

I turned the chime off, and filtered /tells out of the chat tabs I use. Between people doing what I did or using /busy, I don't see how being able to filter /tells from friends only is going to hurt the community/new players. At the very least it gives some semblance of the /tell system back to the players.

I'm not saying they necessarily need to let you filter it so you only receive tells from friends... just they need to do SOMETHING so we don't associate the /tell chime with RMT anymore, it's embarrassing. Half the time I want to tell the RMT spammers to go F themselves but 1) they're just bots 2) I don't want to get hacked, and 3) I don't speak chinese (and from the grammar in these tells something tells me they don't actually speak English either!).

Either a filtering option, or a system where blacklisting a character includes their whole account would go a long way to solving the issue. It's just that I see a lot of people raising a fuss over the filtering suggestion, citing the "community" or new players trying to ask for help as their reasoning. But if players are using /busy perpetually or filtering tells out and silencing them (effectively turning /tells off altogether), then we're already at that point. The original intent for the /tell system has already been "ruined"/"destroyed", so a filtering system would only improve the /tell issue.

Just imagine hearing that /tell chime, and knowing for certain it's a friend/fellow LS/fellow FCmember, that should be a given, not a daydream.

Both of these sound as if they'd be quite easy to implement, yet nothing appears to be done at all. No response from SE, they apparently keep pretending that there is no problem in the first place. Their weekly "We banned <random number> accounts this week for RMT/illicit activity" updates sadly mean absolutely nothing when they don't have a noticeable impact on the spam at all. Their current methods are ineffective and several servers are suffering from severe spam. Really seems they don't care the slightest about their fans' daily experience in the game.

I don't get them that often on Moogle; I blacklist as soon as I see them. I think I've had a handful of tells from proper people anyways.
