And here's the thing: If there are enough complaints about something that it drowns out all other topics, maybe it's something that needs to be addressed.

Hopefully they'll address it by banning all the people spamming the forums. Seriously the Anti-RMT spam on the forum is just as bad as the RMT spam in-game. You aren't hurting SE by making a new topic about this every 5 mins... you are hurting other players who are trying to have discussions and use this resource. I have almost permanently switched to reddit because this **** isn't constant there.

Personally I hope it continues to happen until something is finally done. There are dozens of ideas all over the place, ranging from the simple like right click->blacklist, to lifting the limit on the blacklist, and the more complicated like the option to block tells at a certain level.
We also need education. To tell people NOT to go to these websites even to "sneak a peek" or "see what's up." I know it sounds like babysitting but given the problem at this point is likely self-perpetuating because of "first MMO syndrome," some education is in order.

When I go into a city I LITERALLY get an RMT /tell every 5 minutes, there's still in the grand scheme of things, not many threads in the forums yet about the #1 fixable issue with FFXIV right now (I'm saying it's fixable since they figured it out in FFXI decently, other MMO's have figured it out, and because most of the other problems the game has right now are design issues rather than "this shit needs to get fixed now" level).

RMT's are a major issue here. My hope is that at some point the devs notice this "RMT" thing being mentioned on the NA forums a lot, they might click general discussion and then see like 10 threads with "RMT" in the title. They then can go to their translators for the NA community team and say "hey this RMT thing, is it a big deal over in NA/EU?" And then the community reps respond "OMFG YES it's atrocious, happens to us all the time, the players can't shut up about it, where the heck are our 3 members of that RMT task force?" The devs respond "working on the [mostly non-existent] JP server RMT spam."

I'd like to point out that these are the official forums and therefore there's a better chance of the issues being addressed since a moderator can bring them up to someone who can actually do something about it. I don't think the same could be said of Reddit, so that's probably why there's far less discussion about RMT there.

Often those who with that kind of attitude towards RMT are the ones who use RMT services.

Not only is RMT game-breaking, it DOES ruin lives because RMTs end up with access to the personal information associated with the account that bought gil. Aside from leaving debit cards ripe for the stealing, it also leaves the account holder ripe for identity theft.

its not a problem in my server tho i get 2 a week at most lol mayb the occasional bot friend spam but blacklist solves that problem.. odin doesnt even have constant spam in any of the cities uldah used to be horrible... few months back 20 in 5 seconds on shout but now not one :3 shows SE are solving the problem people just want it solved faster then its possible

its not a problem in my server tho i get 2 a week at most lol mayb the occasional bot friend spam but blacklist solves that problem.. odin doesnt even have constant spam in any of the cities uldah used to be horrible... few months back 20 in 5 seconds on shout but now not one :3 shows SE are solving the problem people just want it solved faster then its possible

They are "solving the problem" because your particular server isn't highly affected? My name starts with an "A" and I'm on Excalibur. I get so many RMT tells when I'm not in busy status that I wouldn't even be able to notice if I got a legit tell. They aren't solving ANYTHING. Their counter-measures against mass tells are so pathetic that they were circumvented almost immediately. I really enjoy the "JBNf" "aDCA" "DTHd" at the end of every tell, getting around that rad filter that can't seem to notice when someone sends a 99% identical tell to 100s or 1000s of people every couple minutes.

If SE can't even figure out how to filter tells to where RMT don't spam the hell out of you, they deserve every single person who quits the game, which, btw, is taken almost exclusively from their target demographic: folks who never played MMOs before. If you never played MMOs before, or barely have, and you log in after creating your character to a ton of spam tells, do you get a warm fuzzy feeling about continuing to play? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHA. TOTALLY FIXING IT BRO, RIGHT!?!?!?!

From echo nerfs, to people fishing on ST ques, to the queing penalty is too extreme I had to go to the bathroom, to nerf coil, to can we get a withdrawl button for the df window, to oh, I was playing TT and missed my que and got the penalty, and even Steps of Faith is too hard, please SE take it out of trials.

Please stop making complaint threads over anything and everything. You guys whine so much and really, you should be playing the game you seem to be so heavily invested in, rather than qqing over such trivial things.

I mostly agree with you, but the RMTs currently are a very significant problem, unlike some glamour thing which does not really impact gameplay at all. This problem is anything BUT trivial. In fact, I'd rank it as battling it out for #1 priority contending with releasing Heavensward. Think of how many new players are going to buy this game and then unsub when they see the spam!
