    Chocobo Companion SP

Quick question. Can a chocobo max out on all three skill trees? I got my chocobo on rank 3 and I have yet to place SP in fear of making a mistake.

Eventually yes, at Rank 20 you will be able to have all 3 ranks at max...

However... Getting to Rank 20 takes a very long time and quite a bit of investment. Rank 11-20 requires you to feed them Thavnarian Onions to unlock each rank, which cost quite a bit, or take a very long time to grow.

If you stop at Rank 10, since Onions are expensive or the amount of time/krakka roots to rank up is long, then you will be able to have 1 tree at max.

Rank20 lets you max all 3 trees and get all 3 bardings.

Its a long grind, but the weekly companion bonus plus lots of Krakka makes it doable.

Cool. Would it be better then to max out 1 tree at rank 10 or should I try to make a hybrid chocobo? I'm guessing it's just preference.

That depends. If you max out a rank you get a special barding for your chocobo for that rank. Healing Choco's get whm barding, Tank Choco's get Heavy Armor barding, etc. The barding is only cosmetic though. Otherwise it is probably best to make a hybrid, depending on what job you play and what you need.

    Edit:
You can also respec the Choco's SP later if you change your mind by purchasing a Regean Pepper with seals and feeding it to them. This requires access to a stable via housing and either a large amount of GC or Allied seals.

The pepper can actually be bought for 20 allied seals which isn't hard to accumulate and can be fed to the chocobo without a stable. The pepper basiclly works the same as the hymnal for your character. My opinion is to focus on 1 tree at a time as it will give the biggest benefit for that tree. Once you're able to go beyond rank 10 then you can go hybrid. Again, just my suggestion based on my experience. Have fun!

I took mine to 10 for the barding, then immediately went hybrid. The level 10 skill for each tree is an aoe, which is problematic - dps or tank might pull extra mobs on top of you, while healing will use the weaker aoe skill even if only you are hurt (and solo).

Omigosh your poor bird is only level THREE?
Did you not ever use it to fight beside you? If you belong to an FC with a stable, do the Chocobo Raising quests and then stable that bird and start training it! Also Curiel Root can be used when he's out helping you and gives a nice exp boost

I'm just a month old player though lol. Never had the need to use the guy up until now doing the relic weapon quests. Definitely gonna check those things out.

Maybe if SE ever fixes it so that we can have our chocobo companion out while waiting in DF queue, we'll have fewer people who (like me) rarely ever summon him.
