    Suggestion: Dungeon Boss Achievements

I always loved the dungeon boss-specific achievements from World of Warcraft, as I thought they added additional, completely optional challenges to dungeons for completing them in interesting ways or by handling additional difficulties through the boss fight.

I think incorporating these to boss fights through FFXIV's dungeons would allow for some great replay value for dungeons, as well as something for small groups to challenge if for nothing more than an achievement and personal satisfaction.

I came up with a few example achievements for a few current dungeon bosses:

    Penalty Box
    Sunken Temple of Qarn (Hard)
Defeat Vicegerent To The Warden after transforming each of your party members into a mummy at least once.

    Out of Sight...
    Amdapor Keep
Defeat Anantaboga without any party member being hit by Imminent Catastrophe.

    Stop... Zombie time!
    Pharos Sirius
Defeat Siren without allowing her Zombie Storm Sergeants to grab their targets.

    Drawing a Bead
    Brayflox Longstop (Hard)
Defeat Gobmachine G-VI without killing any Illuminati Snipers.

Demons, Orbs, and Doors! Oh My!
    Lost City of Amdapor
Defeat Diabolos without any party member being hit by exploding orbs.

Some are easier than others, so you might see one while queing via duty finder, while others would need to be sought by perhaps forming your own group beforehand.

    What do you think?

I dislike any achievement that relies on the specific behavior of other players.

    But that's just me.

I think it is a great idea! I enjoyed this as well in WoW and would break the monotony of Run Y X Times.

That's perfectly reasonable, which is why they would be completely optional. If you had the desire to try for them it would be an extra challenge, but you wouldn't miss anything if you didn't.

Me too! Some of the FFXIV achievements feels uninspired or too far out of reach (I.e. Run 500 X, or Win 1000 Y), so I these would add fun and interesting twists on encounters people have seen numerous times. You can always tackle them later with little downside other that desire of additional challenges.

I tried to come up with the examples posted above which would require coordination from all party members in some form or another, and tried to avoid things which only resulted in Healers having to heal more. For example: In the Diabolos encounter, he places orbs on a random player which don't explode immediately, so each player's positioning becomes extremely important as you need to be aware of their location AND you wouldn't want to have them accidentally placed in front of doors you also need to open.

Thanks for the interesting achievement ideas! I can't make any promises that we'll be able to add the achievements listed here, but we'll be adding a bunch of different achievements in Heavensward, so please stay tuned!

I like it. It adds a luck factor into it, being that you may not get players that can perform the mechanic in the way you want, while at the same time not being completely out of your control on some RNG thing happening.

I've always been craving those. There are just not enough to do in the dungeons nowadays. Rift had great ones. I'd love to get challenges like they have added to Record Keeper game on the phone.

I like the idea but you need to consider that by having these kinds of achievements you will create two groups of players in dungeons; players that already have the achievement and those that don't.

This will create situations similar to what happens when someone is running a dungeon for story and wants to watch all the cutscenes. Some people will try to do the achievement objectives which may or may not be risky and jeopardize the party. This will inevitably create conflict with someone in the party who just wants a fast clear for roulette or just doesn't need the achievement and just sees the achievement objectives as a nuisance.

Yeah that would definitely make some of the farming in this game more bearable.

Coming from DCUO i'd really love this.

In DCUO there was lot of achievements to get and some were really fun to do and they were like what OP is suggesting.

The only difference is that achievements ( feats ) were a major part of the game since every 100 feats points gave you a skill point.
( id love to have this on FFXIV too with attribute points as a reward )
