I feel the same way about twitter, but you can still create an account to use specifically for situations like this, even if you don't plan on being active there.

I don't like or use twitter either but its free to sign up on their site and enter the contest.
It's more for free marking. We post hastags and becomes trending what does free advertising. Why it's on Twitter.

Twitter isn't even bad. Facebook shoots advertisements at you like rainfall. Twitter is very minimal in ads. Furthermore it's media infrastructure is simple and not overbearing. I'm not a social person, I'll say like 10 words a day, but I prefer twitter to share my media/ideas/etc.
I hate twitter because in my eyes it's basically a social platform for famous people and their fans. Totally pointless.Twitter isn't even bad. Facebook shoots advertisements at you like rainfall. Myspace is all but dead now, ever since Facebook started taking off. I never was into it myself and only got FB for college, though I keep it now due to some friends. Otherwise I'd be off that too.

Marketing. Social media is the most powerful tool for marketing whether you like it or not, and by hosting a fan contest on a social media site it is essentially low-cost/free marketing for them. "Show off your Au Ra!" might look like a cute competition to us, but of course there is the business and marketing aspect of it for SE, with the whole idea of getting these images trending and circulating the web. It makes the people playing the game do the marketing for them. If the contest is hosted on the forum, it's not exactly being marketed to a new audience.
Why do people always act like no one was socially awkward before texting and social media? The vast majority of people who are socially awkward who use social media and texting would still be socially awkward 30 years ago. What these technologies allow is for those who are socially awkward to still have some form of social interaction which is a good thing. I hate when people act like these things are are horrible when they've done far more good than bad.
