    RMT will always be here.

Hello all. I've been thinking about all the RMT lately and the effect it will have on the community when we (hopefully) get a large infusion of players due to the expansion. I myself don't know much about computer programming or software design so I have no idea how or what measures SE could take to affect the problem.
I do see a rather large problem that SE had to address in the first place. I think a lot of people believe SE is not doing anything/not enough to combat the problem. I also think that Gilsellers/RMT are never going to be stopped for a few reasons. RMT are literally making a living off of selling in game currency. The drive to find new ways to circumvent any measures implemented will always be higher than SE's efforts to combat the problem. SE has a whole slew of issues to deal with besides RMT, while RMT can focus totally on finding ways to move their product. If you think about it this way, I believe that some of the anger towards se can be minimized. They are dealing the problem as best as they can, but consider the adversary they are combating.

No other P2P MMO has near this level of spam/harassment to deal with. Obviously they are doing something that SE is not. The methods of these other companies seem to be more effective.

I wonder if SE get rid of the search player function would help with the RMT /tells or add friend reqeusts, assuming if the bots are relying on that to annoy players. But then again, I don't think they will get rid of it or if it would help at all.

SE are not doing all they can to combat this issue, and it is obvious enough. After all this time they still haven't given us the tiniest tools to help defend us against the rampant spam. /busy is still the only defense we have, and it cripples us, as we can't receive party invites or whispers from even friends, FC members, LS members. It'd be so damn simple to give us a status that only blocks friend requests and whispers from STRANGERS, and it's what players have been asking for for over a year now. SE are not your friends, please don't try to defend them when they so clearly don't care about you or any of us.

I have played a few P2P mmo's. FFXI, Aion(before it went F2P), SWTOR (same as Aion),
Elder Scrolls Online, etc. Most of these games don't last long as they stand to make more money with some kind of cash shop option, and end up doing the same thing the RMT's do to an extent. I can't think of another MMO that didn't have a huge RMT problem. (Can't speak to WoW)

No, 100% NO. When everyone uses that block, it will cripple the community, especially the new players. And it won't even work. RMTs will just go back to shouting a lot more, which will make things even worse. Just stop with these band-aid ideas, we need a permanent solution.

I vaguely remember SE swinging a large ban hammer at one point, when the shouting got really bad. In retaliation, the RMT started actively hacking accounts and using them. Like I said, I don't know much about how to combat the problem on a software level. But maybe they are letting the annoying thing through to prevent a larger scale problem. The devil you know and all that. RMT's will always find a way in my experience

A button on right click that says "Report for RMT." 8 or more reports from players mutes the account. Doesn't ban it, just stops it from shouting or sending tells for 24 hours until they can contact a GM if they are a legit player. 16 or more reports locks it down and prevents it from teleporting or taking any actions. If the reporters abused the function to harass someone, the GM gets the option to mass suspend them pending further investigation as well.

They implemented this in Aion and it was circumvented in ONE DAY.

It should at least work for trial accounts. Trials are already massively crippled on what they can do anyway; what's a few more things?
