I agree, compelling a new player to play an advanced job without properly understanding party dynamics and a more rudimentary version of the three roles therein, would certainly equate to punishing them.
Like sheep to the slaughter.
The devs want their game to have some degree of continuity. I quite like the fact they stuck to this. It's an example of creative freedoms. In this case, the desire to maintain continuity within the game. It's an example that they want their game to be how they envision it, not simply a tool to earn the most money (for this issue in particular, profits would be negligible though). Of course, I'm not denying the possibility that this also serves as a petty means to keep someone around, but given how quick it is to do things usually, I'd say that conspiracy reasoning is rather lacking if someone were to claim that.

Castrum Meridianum is 1 1/2 years old and people still do it
No it's not, Do you really think RMT don't have an army of black mages that already done steps of faith?

At no point has SE called these "advanced" jobs. As far as anyone knows at this point, the new jobs are neither more powerful nor more complex than the jobs we have currently.
This is a very poor argument.
As for "players who won't try because they can't play DRK" meaning they're flaky players... So what? Flaky or not, that's money not going into SE's pockets that could be going there. Strikes me as bad business. Even if they don't stick around to keep the subscription money flowing in, that initial investment shouldn't be taken lightly.
I don't like the idea that a game that I'm so invested in is being head by folks with poor business sense. I want the game to thrive, not fail.

I'm ok with this and I wouldn't be mad about that.
It's very bad of you to bring up "white knight" as a tool of mockery in this case.
People defending dev decisions for logical reasons within the game = white knight.
People defending a hypothetical (see non-existent) new player with problems derived from people looking to only complain = ???? *hint: refer to the other

idk why people are put off by it, i myself would be greatly motivated like catching up to that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and its not like traveling along the rainbow is boring either. the instant gratification of having it all unlocked and there for new players is kind of meaningless isnt it?
