In most games though, if you don't enjoy something you have the choice of skipping it or doing it differently. However, whose to say that they wouldn't enjoy something? We wouldn't know, and they wouldn't know because they never got the chance to not do it.
How dose it punish? Can't do the new stuff at level 1 20 or 30 so how dose it punish I wish people would stop complaining on this because it's for story purpose for crying out loud. Its also going to help keeping rmts and bots out of the new areas.
Nothing in the game is dynamic. All your doing is extending a script someone made since nothing changes.
See all those black mages running around? Probably doing the story over/over for gems? Scripts.

Stone Vigil HM last boss, and Thornmarch both HM and EX would like to have a word with you.
Even if DRK was available to play in 2.0, Bluevann's friend would have had to play on a different class up to 30 before he'd be able to pick up DRK. It just sounds like he's unwilling to try something different because he's so fixated on this one type of weapon. I'd hate to hear how he'd react to having to get cross-class abilities even if he were able to start as DRK.
you need to be level 50 with a item level of 90 to finish the story because new jobs are locked behind Isgaurd and this is fine because Isgaurd is locked for story and lore reasons.
Dark knight- Isgaurd corrupt prist and knight hunter.
Machinist - gunners that are now taking a more active presence in the dravana war because they can't replace dragoons fast enough.
Astralagon- reads the stars to predict the future they do this in Isgaurd because dragons live for over a thousand years so only way to get intelligence on them.
All these are Isgaurd related can't start as one of them can't unlock till you go in Isgaurd its like saying you going to go and be a doctor with out first going to high school college and Harvard school for medicine.

Well, i'd love to fight you with "What Ifs" however they don't even have a chance to try, so who cares?Stone Vigil HM last boss, and Thornmarch both HM and EX would like to have a word with you.

So your friend didn't want to play without a greatsword class, even though he loved the story that he never played because he couldn't play it as a greatsword class? I don't think he was really that excited about the game. Sounds like he just has a possibly-insane fascination with greatswords. If a game features a weapon ascetic you like, that's one reason to enjoy it, but it's really weird that that's his only selling point.
Of course, I'm sure you would never just make this story up or anything.
When in doubt, assume sarcasm
People saying they want fights to be more random are just not seeing the bigger picture
It makes progression hella longer with unpredictable encounters that on one night you will one shot, and the next 3 weeks you will wipe for hours on.
No thanks.
You basically play a prediction game by than instead of a memory game.
I prefer relying on memory than to try to guess whats going to happen next.
But we're talking about the core of the game here as something they may not enjoy. We're talking the combat/crafting/gathering/etc system. We're talking about the focus on story (which is a huge thing for FFXIV content). I mean, the story is so important to the devs that this is the very reason they give us as to why the new jobs are locked. Chances are, they'll eventually find reason enough to remove this story lock if it gets out of hand with difficulty to complete as time goes on.
Let me put it to you this way, if someone is interested in playing at all, they'll play with that interest. If someone was flaky to begin with, and just the name or idea of something like Dark Knight is the only motivation they find to want to play, they'll be hesitant and critical of every little thing. This is just nature. They might have fun, sure, but their fun will only last for so long. Some exceptions do exist, but not enough to truly turn the tide on adding to the population. Quite often, it's not the game that doesn't give the player a chance to try, it's the players own hesitation or reasons. Like you pointed out earlier, it's something they'd have to pay two times over for just to get the game. I would hope they have more reason than just the name of "Dark Knight" to at least have SOME interest in playing lol.
