Something to consider is you'd have to ensure having the equipment for each job you can possible get, currently in your on-hand inventory. Which means getting a system like this to work, may be a bit more complicated.
I've made this suggestion before in other threads regarding the duty roulette.

Basically a DF "Job roulette" option would just give a tick-box of "jobs to consider" based on the highest level gearset not missing parts.

So if you have a gearset for every job, but you're missing the relic weapon for the job, it won't consider that gearset. If you have multiple MH gears and sets for it, it will consider the one with the "optimal" (eg SCH would pick Mind, SMN would pick Int) equipment combination where all the gear is present.

Another solution is having it lock all the gear for which you've queued, so you can't remove the MH/OH gear from the armory while queued. Then it would just "auto-optimize" the gear for the job/class selected.

kinda like that idea, say set gear to the random slots and then df will pick between those and equip gear automaticly even if its in retainer or storage... frees up chest in the proccess

    Ah thanks for the responses.

So in terms of selection, I imagine it would pick from the weapons you have in your Armoury Chest. Having a particular job geared in terms of armor and accessories would be easiest left to the individual. Seems fair to me as I haven't quite maxed out the Armoury Chest yet but certainly close. Glamour gear (Armor/Glamour Guide plz), crafting mats, and fishing tackle are what take up all my storage space.. but that is a different conversation.

And if the roulette was designed for pre-made only parties as I suggested, it could randomly select the jobs for each person and then once everyone has gone through and equipped gear or whatever they want to do, everyone hits "Okay!" or whatever to go. Essentially the same system as it is now but without the entry timer.

Sounds like it could be a pretty fun idea, especially the no fixed party part.
Some of my favorite dungeon runs have been when we do something weird like 3 dragoons and a scholar.

How about "Master Trials"? Reminscent of FFXI's Salvage and Nyzul Isle that had 'Pathos" where players received one or several penalties and restrictions. They would be Expert Trials and High Level Dungeons, but with random penalties and greater rewards.

Penalties could be one or more of the following, randomly generated at the start of the trial. They could be permanent for the run (more fun) or removable gradually as you progress(similar to Salvage), though that's less of a challenge and less fun

    Examples of potential penalties:
Attributes Down (All attribute stats -15%).
    Skill Speed -15%
    Enemy attack speed +25%
    Healing Received -15%
    Damage Dealt -25%
Armor Slot locked (An equipment slot other than weapon or offhand is chosen at random, and unequiped, and cannot be re-equipped until after the dungeon)
Accessory Slot locked (Same as above, but for right side equipment other than offhand or Soulstone)
Soulstone Locked (Must play as your base class e.g. Lancer, Maurader etc)
    Damage Received +25%
    HP-15%
    MP-15%
    etc...

The penalties could be global (everyone gets the same penalty), class based (only healers could get the -MP one, only tanks could get the +damage taken one), or each player can get a completely random penalty(any penalty on anyone, for true randomness).

For winning, the reward could be:
    Double the gil.
    Tomes x 1.25
+1 slot to treasure pool (dungeon drops an extra item)

I think "Master Roulette' has an apt name, because if you're truly a master at your role, it should still be possible to do Shiva EX or Amdapor Keep Hard with Conjurers and a DPS without a Leg or Foot Armor, and a Gladiator with -15% HP. The penalties would make it fun I think. Maybe make it pre-form only, to foster high level, fine play. Also make it such that it can only be ATTEMPTED once, to prevent a group from abandoning and retrying in an attempt to re-roll the penalties until they get the least detrimental(if you attempt and abandon/leave without winning, your daily bonuses are forfeit).

This was actually one of the events at last year's US Fan Fest. You had things like iLvl restrictions on gear, naked, ect. It was a lot of fun and you could hear the players cheer or nearly cry at the front of the line depending on what they spun on the wheel. I would love to see something like this actually in game. In addition, I would love if they put in both a HM and an EX version. Giving different bonuses for each. That way, those players who aren't quite as skilled or who don't have the gear could still experience the challenge.

    Sounds fun though.

Because if it's the latter, I think what will happen a lot is people with tank/healer unlocked who use this, will find themselves drawing tank/healer almost every run and be paired up with people that chose DPS specifically or only have DPS classes level'd... so based on demand for Tank/Healer, people who have them unlocked might not get the diverse experiences they're expecting by using this.

Similar to how if you queue low level roulette as a healer, you're more likely to get a dungeon people don't want in that role and bail on it, increasing your chances of having to run it in their place.
Lucky enough I'd guesstimate about one in three having a tank class unlocked and leveled to 50*. Said roulette would simply have to force you to go with any class you have and potentially up to any level.
Have a MRD 26? Way more than enough to tank Halatali.
    Don't have a weapon? Here's a synched L50 white weapon.

Make the reward dependant on the amount of jobs you have unlocked when que'ing. No risk - no reward. Not to mention this wouldn't be designed for people that only do one thing over and over and over again anyway.
*Whether they have the skill to go along with that is on an entirely different paper.

    ^

That OP reminded me of Salvage (FFXI), especially the last paragraph haha. Those rewards were pretty amazing though. I didn't get into it much, it wasn't my thing.

But then it'd give the devs another thing to worry about.
Ppl complain its impossible to win or, not enough dps, etc.
Ppl start suggesting dumb things that make ppl go like wtf mann y would u even think of that.
Sounds cool in theory but would be a nightmare in df with the current system of ffxiv.
Very little customization as ppl r somewhat cookie cutter build and will be punished if they try to build away from the meta.
Also the rewards better be something of worth or else it'll just be a one time run like the steps of faith for most ppl.

Why not have it simply choose from one of your already saved gear sets? If you don't have a gear set saved for the class/job then the system wouldn't consider any class/job that you do not have a gear set saved for, but would simply pick from the available jobs/classes that you already have a gear set saved for and would only choose, from the choices available, any one that has all the necessary pieces? OP's idea sounds fun, however if the game were to select for me, say for example Mnk or Drg, I would just have to derp my way through the dungeon/trial as I never play those jobs. It would be a good learning experience, I think.
