    Curious Idea: Random Job Roulette

Not sure if this has been suggested before but it's something I've been thinking about recently.

I find myself very bored lately with all jobs capped (erm except Bard.) Yes the expansion is coming with new jobs but this cycle will repeat itself. Won't take long to cap out the three new jobs.

I still enjoy doing dungeons with friends but everyone kind of has their primary role they get stuck playing. It's hard to push people out of their comfort zone (myself included, I hate playing tank or healer except with friends) unless there is a reason to and, when you do, it usually ends up being a bunch of fun.

I think something like a Job Roulette would be fun. It might be better if it's limited to pre-made parties?

Essentially it would select a dungeon at random and then check all players for eligible jobs and then randomly fill the roles of the party. I guess it would provide a tome or experience bonus once per day.

Even crazier idea is to add some sort of expert/fun house version where there is no fixed party setup.. so it could end up with 4 healers or 2 DPS and 2 Tanks etc etc. Any combination.

I'd say it'd be even cuter if there was some sort of slot machine or Bingo type ball-roller drawing animation at the start.

Maybe the requirement for unlocking it is having one job for each role available? So that's three jobs. Seems feasible enough in a game with 9 jobs and soon to be 12. And say it randomly chooses a lower level dungeon, then any job above that level is eligible, which broadens the window even more.

Now that I think about it.. they could do a Challenge type dungeon roulette similar to the stuff in recent Mortal Kombat games.. In this case you could pick your jobs as normal but there could be some variables chosen at random for the run. Maybe stuff like Half HP, Half MP, Half TP, Slow Movement, Fast Movement, Unlimited TP, All Enemy Attacks Have Poison, Half Cures, etc etc. Lots of possibilites.

    Hmmmm....

And WHAT is wrong with Bard??

    Kidding.

Anyway, this idea sounds really cool. I know I never like to tank. Ever. So this would probably be the only way I'd do it (I wouldn't back out just because I got tank. That'd be lame.) But if there was a way to implement this that would be really neat.

This would be super fun. They had a similar thing in FF7 battle arena too.

I think this is an awesome idea. It would help players to get into their other roles that they never truly played with. Of course you'd need to balance out rewards vs. difficulty of the dungeon what with the potential of having people join in who haven't a clue what they are doing. I don't mean that in a negative way, but if you are somebody who NEVER tanks, getting forced to tank Aurum Vale could cause more frustration than fun if you aren't working hard for a cool reward.

Thanks for the interesting idea! We've relayed this to the development team so they can have additional fuel when brainstorming new and fun challenges.

What if you have a job unlocked, queue pops for that job (i'm assuming it tells you what you'll be playing before going in so you can switch to that job before entering) and then....it turns out you don't have the weapon for that job specifically in your inventory to switch to....or you do, but you don't have the proper equipment for that job and instead you're just using the weapon and running around naked?

Something to consider is you'd have to ensure having the equipment for each job you can possible get, currently in your on-hand inventory. Which means getting a system like this to work, may be a bit more complicated.

Maybe the roulette could have it's own interface where you can drop Gear Sets into empty slots for all the classes you can use, and it takes the data from those to determine what jobs it can pull on? if you don't have the job equipment available then it simply isn't possible to queue Job Roulette with it.

kinda like that idea, say set gear to the random slots and then df will pick between those and equip gear automaticly even if its in retainer or storage... frees up chest in the proccess

    Ah thanks for the responses.

So in terms of selection, I imagine it would pick from the weapons you have in your Armoury Chest. Having a particular job geared in terms of armor and accessories would be easiest left to the individual. Seems fair to me as I haven't quite maxed out the Armoury Chest yet but certainly close. Glamour gear (Armor/Glamour Guide plz), crafting mats, and fishing tackle are what take up all my storage space.. but that is a different conversation.

And if the roulette was designed for pre-made only parties as I suggested, it could randomly select the jobs for each person and then once everyone has gone through and equipped gear or whatever they want to do, everyone hits "Okay!" or whatever to go. Essentially the same system as it is now but without the entry timer.
