Any word on more GC Ranks?

Ive been looking around and haven't seen anything. Im assuming with the expansion you would get more ranks (and possible some awesome new GC Gear ) but ive seen no news....Also with what has happened story wise, how would you rank up your GC if youre in Ishgard???? Excuse me, ima take a break of defending Ishgard to go be a Flame Champion for an Immortal flames who have no control over Uldah anymore.....

I'd imagine there will be an increase since they already have the icons on the grand company vendors for higher ranks. Whether they implement it at launch or shortly after is to be seen. My hope is at launch since we'll have new fates to tackle. It is surprising they haven't mentioned it though.

That would be pretty sweet!, so I guess by the looks of it we have 3 expansions left (if we were to go by that)(sounds good to me)

This^, The ranks are already there. I'm hoping 1LT and CPT will be made available for the expansion. The next tier after that should be MAJ, LTC and COL. But considering how long we've been capped at 2LT, that will be awhile.

I think story wise a rank increase is due. You already report directly to the General/Admiral, in most cases a 2LT wouldn't do that. With how directly involved you are with everything, main story and also the beast tribe relations, 2LT is really a lower rank. It's an officer yes, but the lowest one. CPT or MAJ at this point would be more fitting.

I've been a 2nd Serpent Lt. since before the 1.0 servers went offline. I kept hoping they would add more ranks each update of ARR, but at this point I think the GCs have joined musketeer in development hell.

Don't forget Free Company Primal Summoning... That exciting piece of content has been in development limbo for far too long now...

At this point I don't think I really mind though... I mean they're not doing anything with Grand Companies anyway... I'd like more Ranks, sure, but I'd still much rather have something along the lines of Conquest (FFXI) or Campaign (FFXI: Wings of the Goddess) to actually give Grand Companies and their Ranks some form of purpose... Instead Ranks have just been a fairly easy quest with Seal grind, it's actually kind of pathetic...

Very least I'd like is for them to overhaul Grand Company Levequests to the point where they're worth doing... In my opinion the Grand Company Levequests should have been "endgame" Levequests, not more of the same but with Seal rewards instead... Worse still the Seal reward isn't even worthwhile, it's pathetic compared to virtually every other piece of content you could do instead to farm Seals...

There is still an implementation plan for the summoning system where adventurers can call a primal. Since there's currently a lot of content already planned to be implemented, it's been moved to the back of the list for now.

Oh I know it is still planned, but this isn't the first time I've seen them push it back, and I doubt it'll be the last. Much like Grand Companies they don't really have any content that can really use the system. There's nothing like Campaign where a Free Company with Ifrit can come in and turn the tide and prevent the Yagudo from taking Sarutabaruta, for example.

As much as I've enjoyed 2.0, it really has killed my hopes for any substantial open world content, they just really don't seem interested in providing such content. Without that I can't see Grand Companies making a significant comeback (although for them to have a comeback I suppose they'd have to have been significant to begin with, which was never the case) and I certainly can't see Free Companies summoning Primals in anything but a "Thanks for one shotting the Hunt mob you jerks" kind of way...

I expect we'll get new Ranks at 60 though, but I don't think they'll be anything interesting. Perhaps some Elite style gear to cover other Jobs (Twin Adders DPS set only really fits Bards and Dragoon should really be on that Tank set...), but I doubt there will be anything significant to make Grand Companies relevant outside vanity or anything to change the current Seal grind they offer. Wasted potential in my opinion, but eh, I'm still enjoying the game, it's just the difference between "Great!" and "Amazing!". Feel free to surprise me with Heavensward Yoshida, I'd love to be wrong on this, but so far all I've heard is more of the same with talk of new Maps/Hunts/etc.

I'm thinking perhaps the Airships might offer some justification though. It sounds like a series of "open" world zones (open, but accessing them sounds complicated) since they said you could arrive at an island while another group is fighting a NM, or something along those lines.

To be honest though, I'm cautious about getting my hopes up for Airships and the Islands they let us access. Will probably be fun, but also probably just another glorified glamour vendor.
