I don't think they hurt the community, only the rich can afford them anyways. People sell services/time all the time, most of the people who sell clears aren't going to help you for free regardless of your thoughts about clear selling. To me people should have the freedom to play however they want as long as they aren't directly cheating/ruining others' experiences. If anything I think it helps the game stay more active because both the people selling and the people buying would probably quit otherwise. In my opinion an active mmo is a healthy mmo.
Don't have think it does, it definitly does as I've spoke with sellers who have been waiting for the buyer to recieve their bought gil. Also account sharing as I know a party that sold a FCoB clear and one of their members played on the sellers account. But the sellers don't care how the buyers get their gil, as long as they get "their" gil.
Content selling should be against the EULA in my opinion.
To be fair, I didn't even get my first kill in a learning party. I just used learning parties to, well, learn. When I had got past double prey reliably I just started joining clear parties by telling the leader I am not new and have done everything in the fight, is it cool to join. Never been rejected after asking myself.Yes they are a problem... Ive been trying to get a learning party for the last 2 weeks for Rav ex. I see a lot of clear parties but they don't want anyone new o.O? The content is only a month or so old and it's a pain to get a learning party together. But I see at least 1 to 2 selling groups at any given time. I don't know what is it up with this generation of mmo players but it seems like to many players just want everything handed to them w/out ever trying to learn the mechanics of a fight. It's sad but true.
Clear selling gives RMT goosbumps of joy. More obscenely expensive things for their clients to actually use their bought gil on.

Not all purchased content requires a suicide, but there are plenty of people that just don't care about that kind of thing. It's not as if you can look at someone's Lodestone and see that they purchased their clear rather than getting it themselves. As far as reasons why, there's lots. Some want to see the cutscenes for the lore, or they want to get the exploration achievement because they're completionists. Some people actually already know the content but don't want to go through the rigamarole of putting together a party of their own; let's face it, even farm parties don't guarantee farming. Some people are either new or returning to the game and want to catch up on things; this was especially prevalent in the last couple of months before Heavensward. People were coming back and wanting to experience FCoB, but had left when T5 was still an enormous roadblock. Some people genuinely don't care about or aren't good at the raid content, but they want the gear anyway for whatever reason. If people wouldn't buy them it wouldn't be a problem.
I never understood the thought process behind buying clears. Do you really value your character so little that you'll suicide and let 7 people carry you the whole way? Like what's even the point of the clear if you didn't earn it?
There's tons of reasons why people buy clears for content. I don't understand why people are so upset about how strangers spend their gil. It doesn't contribute to RMT any more than expensive glamours or housing does.
