no, frankly, content that takes 15 minutes or more to do that no one wants to do should not give a smaller reward than content that takes 5 minutes and everyone wants to do

that is how competent game design works. you make the reward worth the investment of time and energy or people stop caring

I tried to do Steps earlier for m Trial Roulette. People kept leaving but I decided to stick around and help the ones who needed the clear. We got a tank at one point who said he had to go because his cat jumped in the fireplace (worst excuse I've ever heard). We vote kicked him because he for some reason just logged off instead of leaving?

So we waited around, discussing what everyone would do, and he came in again. The same tank. Why the hell would you queue up for "in progress" in Trials if you aren't willing to do Steps? You are bound to get sucked into one with how many people leave. The other people in my party told him they weren't kicking him again and he should just leave. He logged out again... We started the trial with 7 of us. We ended up failing but whatever.

The worst part of it all was when the tank logged back in and just sat there. He told us he "cant be bothered with easy content" and that "you can do it with 6 people and no cannons". Are you kidding me? All he did was talk trash instead of leaving or helping us clear it.

After 30 minutes I had to leave for work. I felt so bad.

Hilarious today... healer from some famous FC on Gilgamesh refusing to change their method and insists on having tank + healer on cannons.
I much rather have people that know what they are doing on cannons/snares to be honest...

Threw some insults - that my alt's gear is inferior (ilvl99) which btw their own gear is definitely not much more than 100 (with i90 weapon *cough* at least I got a i110 one) then left.

Anyways we gave it a shot with a new healer - had some connection issues on first try but we cleared it 2nd try as the 3rd Dragonkiller went off.

EDIT: they left before even willing to give it a shot

If you keep failing with pugs, I would try and get an FC group going. At least you'll get people who won't quit after a failed attempt, assuming your FC isn't terrible.

Don't have an FC? Join one, literally no reason in the world not to.

I just DF'd a SoF. Guided and helped a group of mostly new people through it. Will probably continue to randomly df it till the expansion.

I'm not sure what version of the fight you have , but the dragon walking to the end is about 11 minutes. If you're failing 1 minute in the fight, then I don't know what you should be playing... Moreover, the easiest strategy (did my first DF with this) doesn't even need all DKs to hit (since the boss dies before he gets to the last one). Funny thing is that it's the most common sense strategy but people don't do it for whatever reason.
    All dps attack boss only.
1 healer and one tank on cannons; cannons plow adds and boss when they are dead.
    Tank gathers adds
For the DK, one of the people on cannons sprint to tower.
    Healer heals tank.

Even when you have to use the snare just have the guy who didn't sprint up the tower sprint to activate the second snare.

Boss should die at about 65% progress. Idea is simple: cannons do 2000 every hit. the boss has X health and fight lasts Y minutes. You only need 1 tank and 1 healer, so put the lowest dps (i.e. the useless tank and useless healer) on the cannons to contribute dps. The fight ends regardless of what is happening when the boss dies so DPS on boss is still the priority.

By common sense I think you mean experienced.
I agree with you that this is the quickest way but...
it kinda depend on if your tank is experience enough for add gathering/placement and not fall behind.
Your cannoneers needs to be knowledgeable to sprint and react fast enough to hit the DK before snares wears.

Premade I probably do it your way, but I don't think I would suggest DF doing this. Just send another person up for DK and whoever most comfortable on cannons - you don't need to kill that quick as in before reaching the final DK - but just before it breaks down the final gate...

I dunno, maybe I just don't expect as much out of DF.

I thought of something that might be enough of an incentive to get folks back into SoF, and for them to stick with it until the end:

Make it so the Tomestones of Poetics that you get from SoF don't count toward your weekly limit.

Yeah, you only get seven tomestones per win, but as far as grinds go it's not so bad. I see that at something a lot of folks would leap at anyway - particularly with folks gearing up as fast as they can for the expansion! If SoF was the only source of unlimited Tomestones of Poetics, people would be lining up for it!

The grind and effort it takes from SOF (also no 1st timer bonus), isn't worth it for trials roulette. Yes, new people are trying to run it, i understand that, but it's not really my problem, i won't waste about 1h of time just for 60 soldiery and a bit of poetics, i can live without it.

Either they double the trial roulette and add an extra 50 poetics when it's SOF or nothing will change.
