    PS3 to PS4 upgrade question

A while back there was a free campaign to upgrade from PS3 to the PS4 version of this game and I was just wondering if there was still a way to upgrade to a PS4? I still have my PS3 and am working towards saving up enough money to play on PS4 since my boyfriend plays on our pc.

Once I get a PS4 is there any way to carry everything over (even if it costs) or will I just have to start completely fresh?

You will have to purchase the game for ps4. Once you have it installed you can log in and retain your characters from the ps3. You will not have your macros, or loadouts saved so I would recommend to do a screen shot of them so you can input them on the ps4.

I think there is actually an option to migrate over your bars and loadouts (haven't fired up my ps4 once I got this for PC) but I think you can migrate that data over too with your characters.

Otherwise, do what Evantide did and screenshot them.

Would I still be level 50 and have all of my gear and whatnot once I make the switch or is it just character appearance?

Yes same character, same gear. You dont "lose anything" other than maybe needing to re-position the skills on your hotbars.

Thank goodness. The idea of starting over didn't appeal to me at all. Thanks for your help, guys! Much appreciated!

Just make sure you link the PS4 version you purchase to the same service account on the Mog station and you'll be all set.

When you get the PS4 version, you'll register it with Sony first, through your PS4's connection to the PlayStation Network. (If you buy it through the PSN, this happens automatically. If you buy it anywhere else, you'll get a product code you'll need to enter at the PSN Store.) After that, start up the game and it will ask if you want to connect to an existing Square Enix account or create a new one. In your case, obviously, you'll want to connect to your existing account. Provide your usual login details, and it will show some info about your account (like what characters you have), and ask you to confirm you want to link your PSN account to this SE account. If it looks right, select the confirm option and you're set.

You'll automatically have access to your current character(s), with all their progress, stats, gear, items, etc. intact.

What you won't automatically have are:
    • HUD layout
    • any of the settings from Character Configuration or System Configuration
    • Gear Sets
    • (Cross-)Hotbar layout
    • Macros
    • Triple Triad decks (you'll have all the cards, just not the selections of which to use together as a "deck")

At least at the time when the PS3 to PS4 upgrade program was going on, it was possible to manually move most of that (at least gear sets, hotbars, and macros, but not HUD layout, not sure of the others). I'm not entirely certain whether this feature is still available now that the free upgrade program is over, but if it is, you login first on your PS3, select the "PS3->PS4 Upgrade" button at the bottom right of the launcher page to upload your PS3 data to SE. Then exit the PS3 version, login on PS4, and choose that "PS3->PS4 Upgrade" button there to download the settings you just uploaded from the other.

Since you'll be buying the PS4 copy in addition to having already bought the PS3 copy (rather than using that transfer program that's now expired), you'll retain access to playing from either platform, so you could log in sometimes from one and other times from the other. But any of those settings that don't automatically transfer over don't automatically stay in sync either. So if you are on PS4 one day and update one of your gear sets, for instance, and the next day you log in from PS3, then your gear set will have it's previous value, not what you changed it to on a different platform. It can make alternating between different platforms rather awkward.
