DPS Conundrum

Well, it really just depends. They all have their strengths and drawbacks. Ranged DPS usually hit harder but have weaker armor (I'm not sure if Archer fits in.) You get compensated by having much stronger attack but you have to learn to keep yourself alive. Melee DPS generally hit weaker but can survive more. This is offset by the fact that you're tanking the mob so there's always more risk in that.

I suspect that this is less an issue with the DPS class and more an issue with this being your first MMO. It's a different mindset. You could try to fiddle with your UI to bring your notifications around closer to your character so when you zone in, it'll be easier to see. Give familiar with MMOs and just try to relax. Level the other DPS or try healing/tanking. Who knows. Maybe healing will be more for you.
