    Future-seeing Chocobo's?

so like... this has been bothering me since day one, but only just felt like actually talking about. ( i am lazy like that ) anyhow, in the opening cinematic, the warriors of light are transported to the future. and like magic he can whistle for a pack of nearby, already trained and geared chocobo's. is there any logic to this? what, are there trained and geared chocobo's naturally just laying around every corner of Eorzea? and even so... why would he just assume this when out of his element? it just doesn't make any sense to me.

i mean, it's not like that mage-guy communicated with them before sending them off. so it isn't like they would have been aware of something like that.

is there an actual explanation for this? or even a theory? i suppose they could have had some sort contingency plan in place beforehand. 'if anything goes wrong, i will use up what last power i have to send you off to a far away place. there will be chocobo's there waiting for you too.'. but who would he coordinate such efforts with to ensure these chocobo's to be there? a contingency plan like that seems really farfetched.

Any 1.0 player can easily explain this. They summoned their legacy chocobos.

"In the five years following your sudden disappearance from the Carteneau Flats, your ever-faithful chocobo spent each waking moment galloping across the realm in search of his lost master. His myriad adventures are nothing less than fantastical and heartbreaking...but that is a story for another day."

i see. while that is interesting, it still doesn't add much logic to it. how would their chocobo's know PRECISELY where to be? (they don't, because the quote says they were searching.) and it's not like they can arrive in an instant. they just got lucky to be in the right spot? or can chocobo's hear whistles over an infinite distance with an ability to teleport to that location?

I think you're looking a little too far into it. If this is somehow confusing you then I'm not sure why you simply aren't ranting about how any character in any MMO with mounts can pull a random mount of their butt at any given time at any given location. As with any fantasy game, it requires you to to suspend your disbelief just a tad.

Alongside the Legacy bit, it 1.) Made the scene all the better, and 2.) May have been SE hinting at Legacy players being able to get their "old" chocobo back, rather than having a brand new one. I never did 1.0 so I don't know if the chocobo there could be considred special, but some people probably find it heartwarming.

yeah, but that is gameplay. and this is indeed an MMO, where things like that are naturally simplified, because of the massive scale of things. same reason why many types of gear and weapons have clipping issues. not only would it take forever to implement the accuracy for that, it would also cost the clients more system resources. but this is a cinematic and an actual part of the story we are talking about.

All your mounts are actually always behind you. You just don't see them because when you turn, they quickly sneak behind you again. That's how they always appear immediately when you summon. And that's why they could appear immediately 5 years into the future---because they were right behind the warriors of light all the time anyway, so they got sent to the future as well.

Beware. They are right behind you right this minute, too.

Nikita is correct. The "opening" trailer for FFXIV: A Realm Reborn is called "End of an Era" - it was the transitional trailer for FFXIV 1.0 → FFXIV 2.0. All the events of FFXIV 1.0 still happened, and those of us who are Legacy Players have shared the journey with the hyur that's shown as the "main character" in all the trailers for FFXIV.

To give you a little backstory about what's going on in "End of an Era": the Legacy Adventurers are assembled at Carteneau Flats, battling with the Garleans of the VIIth Legion for control of the area, which was calculated to be Dalamud's (the large, red 'meteor') impact zone. We still didn't know what exactly Dalamud was or what it did, just that we had tried in vain to stop it from falling, and that the VIIth legion had fortified their position at this impact zone, so in a last ditch effort to stop them we threw everything we had at breaking their position, hoping that it would offer something of a hint as to a way to stop Dalamud. Turns out that Dalamud was an ancient Allagan construct meant to imprison Bahamut, and Bahamut finally broke free of his prison in the trailer. Louisoix (the one you call "mage-guy") tried to use the power of the Twelve to stop Bahamut and send him back into the heavens, but he didn't stack enough 1.0 magic accuracy Bahamut was too powerful and the spell failed. In a last-ditch effort to save the realm, he called upon the power of Althyk the Keeper (One of the Twelve, specifically the one who is considered the god of time) to send the Primal-slaying* adventurer and his party forward 5 years into the future.

We're dropped into the future as if no time had passed from our perspective, a bit confused about what happened. During the trailer, the Black Mage calls the party over to see what Eorzea's new landscape looks like, and after not being able to decide what emotion he wants to convey seeing the landscape, the Adventurers call for their Chocobos, who we had obtained as companions during the 1.0 storyline. I suppose it's a bit strange that the Chocobos were so nearby when they heard the call of their adventurer companions, but that makes for a better trailer than a whistle and then 20 minutes of waiting while a Chocobo frantically runs from across the realm.

*Louisoix was the one who was the original questgiver in 1.0 for the Primal Fights we had: Ifrit, Garuda, and King Moggle Mog XII. He had many interactions with the adventurer and his party before, during the times he requested that the adventurer help quell the primal threat. In addition, he was involved with our efforts to stop Dalamud from falling. Point being, that's the reason he sent only "us" (meaning the 'main character' of the FFXIV Story: your character, who is represented by the hyur in the trailers) and our adventuring party into the future.

The two times they weren't behind us everything went to hell. No wonder they do that!
