I really don't think making Shinryu one of Midgardsormr's seven sons would be a "waste" of any kind whatsoever. It would mean he's one of the top eight most badass dragons in the world of FFXIV! Furthermore, making him one of those eight also doesn't mean he can't be archenemies with Omega - remember that these dragons have been around since the days of the Allagan Empire and even earlier.

Remember, the story of these dragons doesn't have to end in Heavensward. They can (and some of them already do!) have influence outside of their own expansion.

Y'know, Omega was designed by the Allag to defeat Bahamut. If Shinryu is on the roster, he just might seek revenge upon discovering that it's been unearthed and fully reactivated.

A more likely scenario concerning dragons and Omega? Bahamut took Shinryu's place.

I wasn't aware if nidhogg had been shown yet, some conflicting responses here.
However i would assume him to be the dark one underneath the others, my reasoning for this is that in norse mythology which Nidhogg originated in, is depicted as a somewhat dark and evil dragon which lives at the roots of Yggdrasil. Which leads me to assume his positioning within the image.

    Edit: Wiki post on him

In Norse mythology, Níðhöggr (Malice Striker, often anglicized Nidhogg[1]) is a dragon who gnaws at a root of the world tree, Yggdrasil. In historical Viking society, níð was a term for a social stigma implying the loss of honor and the status of a villain. Thus, its name might refer to its role as a horrific monster or in its action of chewing the corpses of the inhabitants of Náströnd: those guilty of murder, adultery, and oath-breaking, which Norse society considered among the worst possible crimes.

Perhaps I'm reading to much into it, but the symbol of him below the others would resonate with this perfectly.

Okay, I guess it's safe to assume that, with the upgraded image, Bahamut is NOT one of the 7 celestial dragons. If anything, Bahamut was one one of the 1st child of one of the 7 celestial Dragons.

Would be quite sad if it turns out to be Nidhogg's

Death gaze won't be a thing it's already a common enemy unfortunately :/ I suggested Shinryuu and I agree thinking it might definitely be one. So Bahamut, Nidhogg, Tiamat, Shinryuu. I can't believe I didn't think of the others. Good job! Fafnir is almost definitely in. Yiazmat I think is a variation of Tiamat but maybe not, I'm not too sure, but they both exist in the FF universe so why not? That would be 6/7 plus Midgardsormer, so Gizamaluke and Evrae are both good choices. Probably gonna be Gizamaluke but I'd prefer Evrae.

Considering Jormungand is an enemy in WoD that's out. And Bahamut is one of these 7 dragons almost for sure so yeah.

They pretty much outright listed Bahamut as one of the 7 during an interview at Pax East.

They listed Bahamut, Nidhogg, and Tiamat as 3 of the 7 children of Midgardsormr.

Edit: And to further support the dragon in the Benchmark being Nidhogg, here's the Benchmark video, showing the dragon only has one eye, and the other is a giant scar where (presumably) a lance stabbed into his face.

I dont think he is Nidhoog, there is still no info about who might be, but there are some suggestions that he may not be.

The info is that he's missing an eye and that he's the only one of the seven to be blue, matching the description of Nidhogg.
