What happens now? (Plot sale gone horribly wrong.)

So I had a small personal house in the mist

Never using it, not even bothering with Gardening - rank 20 soot black chocobo, what else do I need? Maybe keep it for expansion... meh there will be more housing later on!

So I decide to sell it. A friend refers someone who he saw was looking for a house in the mist.

He looks around, asks how much, I tell him a price he gives me gil, I remove estate hall, relinquish and...

The guy can't buy the plot, not high enough GC rank because he just recently GC-swapped.

    Panic time!

He tries to find a friend to help him, thinks he might as well try to make it a FC house since he can't buy it himself, but a FC needs rank 6 - so that doesn't work.

But its Mist, on a high pop server, with a free plot.
While we were trying to figure out what to do, someone comes up and buys the land. I didn't want to buy it back myself cause that was wasting gil to resell again to the same guy, right? Ugh -_-

What a horrible situation. Now I'm stuck with the money I got from relinquishing the land but the one who was going to buy it now has nothing for what he spent.

The random buyer said he might be willing to relinquish it, for the price he paid, seeing as this whole mess is really a bad situation but for now, since the original buyer's friend kinda put pressure by using words like "reported to the GMs", the random buyer also wants to protect himself so he won't do anything for now and just wait to see what happens instead of accepting a deal (money back, relinquish) right now.

My hope would be that the GMs refund the random buyer and then the original buyer can take the plot.

I took screenshots of the whole ordeal (all the chat) but I have no idea if that helps me in case things go the wrong way (because you never know what the GMs will do -_- ).

    Ugh, what a horrible situation.

Not your fault, the payment you got was for relinquishing, not for giving HIM the house.
If he was unable to buy the plot after you relinquished it, that's too bad.. He should've made sure he was ready to buy it before he did the transaction.
At least the new owner's willing to let the plot go without making a profit off of it, let the two of them work out a deal.

I doubt the GMs would aid in this situation.

Yea but the buyer's friend kinda jumped the gun, went to the barricades, took up arms, whatever you want - because he felt his friend had just been scammed - which technically is true but had he had the right GC rank he wouldve had it - took a good 10 minutes or maybe more, ill look at screenshots for that, but anyway it wasn't instantly bought by a random guy.

    Sigh.

Without that guy's intervention we might've been able, while wasting gil, to get the plot back from the random buyer. At the cost of the original buyer of course, still hurts to almost double the amount paid but it would've been his at least.
Now the original buyer doesn't trust the random buyer's words, etc. So they're waiting for GM help, meanwhile the random buyer might just decide to keep it after all, because he bought it fair & square...

    >_>

but sitll, had squenix just made it simpler to sell/transfer the plot.... they're too busy making the Ultimate Fight video (as cool as it is I do admit).

    Two words:
    Caveat Emptor.

Just be glad you didn't buy up the plot to "reserve" it for him so he can buy it back.

Now that there's a random guy who bought it, the problem is between the two of them.
You're the third party now, nobody's gonna believe you were a scammer when clearly, the house is no longer yours.

The fault lies with Square Enix for not implementing a way to sell houses. They are still learning as a MMO company, and didn't realize that relinquish fees will be the new thing when they said they didn't want profiteering. Which leads to situations like this.

You did what you agreed to -- what is the norm for situations like these -- and you are in the right.

In addition, one should always make sure they're ready to pick up a plot when agreeing to buy a relinquish. The only thing you could've done better is ask if he was a second lieutenant. But many wiki guides say that all you need to be is second lieutenant with any Grand Company. I honestly wouldn't have known this, myself.

As bad as you must feel, this is between two other parties now.

uh no the fault lies with the guy not being a high enough rank. I feel bad for the Op because now he's left with nothing because that guy was throwing a fit.

Why is it the developers fault that the prospective buyer DOESN'T KNOW THE RULES? The FAULT, if any must be leveled, is SOLELY with the first prospective buyer.

They lost the right to claim inexperience about a decade ago, you know. Right now what we are seeing is a distinct refusal to face the reality of how their playerbase behaves. Players are going to gouge one another in any and every way that they can. If the developer leaves systems in place that are open to exploitation, players will exploit them.

This situation is truly awful and I hope that the GMs can sort it out, but the onus is squarely on SE's shoulders to fix these blatant issues with the so-called player housing.

GMs will do nothing, you relinquished the plot on your own will. The other one could not buy it because the rank was not 6+. Some random swooped in and bought it properly with the mechanics.

The only question that's left is - did he pay you for relinquishing the plot, or did he pay you so he can BUY a S plot? I know, it is just wording, but i'd feel terrible if i agreed that someone got a house and in the end got nothing. But if i am paid to free a space it would be no concern of me what happes after i pressed the relinquish button...

Good luck figuring it out >< hope there's no bad blood left in the end.

P.S.: Sidenote: Personal Airships in 3.0 i'd have kept it, but thats only me, as i dont want to own a house in ishgard

If the attempted buyer didn't realize he was ineligible because he had done a GC swap, then it's not fair of them to expect the same of you. Some people have an inclination to turn their problems into other people's problems instead, and that sounds like who you're dealing with here.
