My i111 WHM parsed 3rd in a Garuda HM yesterday at 316. Most DPS are just awful but I honestly believe most have no idea how bad they are. Even if they made the parser only usable on striking dummies while solo it would be a help.

I did T10 with a i125+ BLM parsing 280. BLMs can hit 700 in that fight. Sure we were clearing, but come on. PLDs can main tank and do 400 in T10. So this poor guy is clearing T10 and probably has zero idea his contribution was minimal at best.

This. I've been in other MMOs with parsers. The grief is stupid bad. I will even give a case for Parse available in Pre Made Parties.

Another way to do it is have a solo battle, at current caps, that allows the player to know how they're doing; that can be re-taken as desired. Warcraft implemented the proving grounds, and you had to achieve silver grading or higher to duty into Cap content. From my friends still playing, they say while its a pain; it's helped alot.

The problem with wide spread parse:
If Player A is a BRD and isn't hitting X dps people will dismiss them because obviously they're a troll. It couldn't be that X is Max dps and the player has minimum ilvl for content. Or that Crit wasn't Maximized just so, so that they proc like mad so dont do enough proc damage. Or that their Acc is not optimal for content and they miss frequently. Suddenly player A isn't bad because they don't know rotation... its progression on their gear that is hurting their dps; but parse says Bad DPS so "Nope, your gone."

Can everyone who wants the parse admit this is a MAJOR problem with it and know it wont be functional as a community?

Take it with a grain of salt, most players will know that low gear levels will mean low numbers, but you can still tell what is expected of that gear level and whether the player is meeting that metric or not. I think it will help many people, as when it becomes clear to them that they are lacking and a detriment to others, most human beings feel compelled to improve.

Yes, ideally. However, Most People have a tenancy to dig their heels in when faced with negatively; with is contrary to that. and Being told they suck, laughed at/mocked, etc causes this. My experience with parse shows this is how people is told their dps is lacking.

I liked this Idea. We could have a fight where the game evaluates you based on your iLevel and damage output. You would be allowed to enter the hard dungeons/raids when you get a certain score or above. It doesn't even need to be in numbers, could be a bronze/silver/gold rating...
So the people who need improving will get better and everyone who is on the raid is "certified" to be there. There will be no numbers to say if any person better or worse than other, everyone got gold ranked to be there...

Except Ilv is a joke (or have you not seen casters and healers w/ 130 fending accessories in WOD?). If it were rebalanced, perhaps.

One more reason to have a trial that compares iLv to dmg (or healing capacity). If anyone is using non-optimal gear just to get to the iLv necessary to get to the raid, the trial will prove if the person is able to make up for the lack of needed stats. If the person is able to pass the trial, they automatically deserve to be in the raid, even with 'bad gear'.

The problem is that SE would have to trial everyone once they changed gear and they would use a low threshold to let more people in...
