Crossovers: Yea or Nay?

So I got to thinking for a while and I have been always wondered to myself: what other crossovers could there be in ARR? For instance, I thought it would be really cool if they did a crossover for Final Fantasy XV celebrating its release, like what they did for when Lightning Returns came out and all the obtainable gear/weapons went with the event. Or I thought if somehow they did something along the lines of a Kingdom Hearts scenario type thing. I can already tell that wouldn't really be possible since the game wont release for a while and the whole Disney property thing. But seriously, who wouldn't want a weapon like Donalds Mage staff for WHM/BLM or a Keyblade for the PLD? We all have seen final fantasy characters incorporated into KH games before, why not do the same so that Sora or Noctis could be walking around Eorzea? These are just my personal thoughts, and Id love to hear what everyone else has to say. What would you like to see happen in the future for a crossover?

Nay, don't need people keep asking for events to return because they missed the event.

No. Just no. And especially not a Kingdom Hearts one - even ignoring my overwhelming hatred for that series, the fact it's in itself a crossover game featuring Disney characters and themes would make intellectual property lawyers curl up in the foetal position and weep quietly to themselves at the legal red tape that would inevitably be required to be navigated at any hypothetical crossover with FFXIV.

Plus, the three crossover events we've had so far (the FFXI, FFXIII and DQ ones), have all had some deeper meta connection to FFXIV and Naoki Yoshida in particular:

The FFXI event was celebrating FFXI's eleventh anniversary of service, plus FFXIV is effectively FFXI's spiritual successor - FFXI's original producer was Hiromichi Tanaka who also was the original producer for FFXIV 1.0 whom Yoshi-P famously replaced following 1.0's disastrous launch. Thus the FFXI event was effectively Yoshi's respectful acknowledgement of his predecessor and FFXIV's MMO predecessor which the later had developed.

The FFXIII event was actually a private joke between Yoshi-P and Tetsuya Nomura, the later whom had put miqo'te racial starting armour as a costume for Lightning in Lightning Returns, along with the level 50 Grand Company GLA/PLD swords and shields as weapons, and Yoshi humorously stated at E3 back in 2013 (prior to launch) that, paraphrased, he would find "some way to repay the compliment" by "finding a way to have Lightning appear in FFXIV". Officially the event was also cross-marketing with LR~FFXIII's launch of course, but it came about as an in-joke between the two producers.

Finally, the Dragon Quest event was, like the FFXI event, to celebrate a milestone, in this case, Dragon Quest X's first anniversary of service - Yoshi-P previously worked on DQX's development team so it was also a fond call back to the previous team he was working with before he took over FFXIV.

Needless to say, I don't think we'll be seeing any more crossover events, save perhaps a FFXV themed one around it's release later in the year.

I would encourage crossover events so long as it's related to the company or the franchise. I would love a Dissidia-based thing where the event trials or fates would be against the heroes themselves. Go up against the original Warrior of Light? Yes please

So FF/KH crossovers? absolutely, I'm all for it. But NO anime crossovers, please. Especially considering the top candidates currently in the industry just would not fit the game (imo) and they've already been done to death in other game crossovers. Which might be part of the fear of doing crossovers altogether. You open the gates to particular requests.

Personally I'd rather not see too many actual mutual cross overs (cannon driven, on both sides of the fence). Its not really unique but I thought they could have a dreamer(s) who dreamt of these other FF/SE worlds, if the developers so choose they could include dreamscapes in a way to make FATEs and interact-able scenes with the use of echo (memories of a dream) and otherwise just use the dreamer as influence on the creation of an Eorzean made item.

You could also use the echo/dreamscape highly instance friendly idea to keep clutter down on any reoccurring event you wanted (like the many returned and often requested to be again Lightning event).

Good for gear as it can easily and repeatedly explain why the power of the item is not present, and allow you to do it as often or at little as you want. And imo importantly /requires/ respect to FFXIV's design as it would be made from FFXIV materials that and also not have any serious affect on lore.

The dataminers over at Blue Gartr have found hints that we might be getting a Youkai Watch crossover, or all things. Talk about a franchise with zero overseas appeal...

Well, if it brings more gear, and doesn't feel too forced (like the Cloud outfit veteran reward, I fail to see any connection other than fanservice), I'm all for it. I mean variety is good, right? If it makes me see one less person running in the same get-up as two dozen others, it's already worth it.

That said, if we don't have a FFXV event when that gets its release, I'm gonna be seriously disappointed. >.>

I need to try that still, thanks for reminding me. I'd be more open to anime-related crossovers if there wasn't a particular set of MMO-related anime fads still going strong right now. Love anime, just not too keen on what's popular atm.

And I agree with BreathlessTao: considering just how much went into FFXV's planned release I will be very, very surprised and sad if we don't have an event. I think it would work considering all of the visual and gameplay cues FFXV seems to be taking from XIV.

I'm all for crossover events, I love em, personally. That being said, who knows what's in the future, with Y'shtola going into the next Dissidia title, what's really stopping any(or all) of that cast from making an appearance in our world?
