    Why pick marauder?

    I picked marauder even before the game was released because I loved how SE described it in the previews. Supposed to be the big RAWR class with the giant axe! Like a big berserker class!

    But when I played it... I get this feeling we more of a tank class than anything... Even tho it seems GLD out shines us on that roll. Where is the big damage output I was looking for?

    Anyone else feel this way? Or am I way off?

    It's more of a balance. Less attack power than a lancer or archer, but more HP and defense. The other main point is marauder's AoE capability, even on normal attacks. Too bad the stamina cost is too high, and that the only time it's useful is during leves when mobs can be claimed in groups. Otherwise it's useless.

    Me and one of my LS friends were talking about this recently and would agree with you 100%. As a MRD R50, I'm doing just as much DOT as my friend who is GLD R50. From how it was described in the beginning, MRD was supposed to be the major DPS in the game, but it seems ARC and LNC, hell, even PUG seem to do more DPS than MRD. Between low damage output and insufficient accuracy it's pretty nerfed and needs some fine tuning. The concept is there though. I say if we have low accuracy we better be putting dealing out 300 ~ 500 dmg per hit. The high end of that being a critical hit and the low end being the more common. If it were the other way around and had high accuracy, then we should still be dealing 200 ~ 400 damage per hit.

    I know that stats can play into this a bit, but even stats get capped. I'm curious to see what someone who has capped str at R50 deals out. However even with stats, that defeats the purpose of "building your own class" if you have to make major sacrifices to the classes root purpose. Maybe if they take out the physical levels and do stats according to classes, we'll see a big difference in our dmg output and accuracy. Who knows.

    MRD does more dmg than Glad, on par or slightly less than PGL, and of course a lot less than LNC and ARC since those two classes have weak defense and HP.

    Something's not right if you're getting out DPSed by a gladiator.

    I don't know.. I felt I did more damage as MRD than I did as LNC. I was doing more damage as rank 5 MRD than my 20 LNC.. Maybe it's a matter of where the points are alotted or the equipment. I just noticed better survivability as well as damage in general.

    Nah, LNC is hands down better DPS than MRD. You have 3 different 500 TP WS to use (4, if you get skull sunder as well), and with Full Thrust, Comrade in Arms, and Invigorate, you can spam WS all day long on normal mobs that aren't too hard. Plus, with every miss, you get a free attack with Feint. Add in Ferocity II, and you get lots of damage.

    Also, regarding survivability, with Life Surge, you'll always leech HP back as long as you keep up your DPS.

    I've found MRD to be great for small group events. We tank well, AOE for damage and hate, and can live though a lot. To use FFXI as an example, MRD is like the RDM of the melee classes. We can do it all but not better than other classes that are mainly focused on doing one thing.

    I find ARC to be the best DD, then MRD, followed by LNC & PUG which are pretty equal. Then GLA.
