Every Tuesday when running CT, the gauntlets of light would drop while I wasn't tanking, so yesterday I ran as tank since that's the last piece of the set I need for glamour. It wasn't too bad until we got to KB and then no one called Iron Giant so he was running amuck. I get off my tower and pick him up but at that point almost everyone was dead from a lag spike that made them miss getting behind a comet for the meteor. So we wipe and attempt again and I said in alliance chat that I would pick up Iron Giant. Someone else was like "Other tanks please don't pull off of Senah" and of course the first thing someone does is grab him and I'm just like really. Then in Syrcus Tower, no tanks stepped up for the first set of trash so I finally ran in. Then I went to MT Scylla and of course that's when someone decided they wanted to MT so I just stopped trying then and went to being off tank from that point.

I no longer do WoD on tank since I tend to rip hate even without my tanking stance up. A lot of people take their alt tanks in and try to main tank and don't realize they just don't have the gear/weapon/skill to maintain control to MT against someone that mains the role...

Possibly a culture difference. On the JP servers, the de facto MT is ALWAYS the the B alliance tank for the entire run. All the other tanks defer to the B tank and control their aggro output to ensure it is not ripped off. Unless for some reason, they need to take it up eg. the MT dying etc or the B tank specifically requests in Alliance chat s/he is relinquishing the MT role. Never ran into a situation where tanks disagree or quarrel among themselves on who is MT or ST.

Saves alot of time and grief

This is how it used to be in MMO's in general but it seems like the art of discussion was lost. Raiding wise the Tanks would discuss amongst themselves who will do what job and people would also discuss their own roles if needed but in the age of PuG "I want my loot then i will leave" raids nobody gives a crap they will just struggle through a messy unorganized ball of stress to get to what they need. There is often a really long delay at the start while all three Tanks just look at each other until somebody pulls they could probably use this time to talk about jobs for the raid and damn well stick with them. Not say "I'm OT" and then start trying to pull the boss.

The Japanese players still have that sense of the whole instead of the self in a lot of situations so they organize things so everything is done as quick as possible without arguments. It's sort of funny how much more bitching happens on western servers in runs because everyone has to wave their e peen around and be billy big spuds.

Forgotten, perhaps, but never lost. And I believe that it is definitely a cultural / learned behavior. It would seem that in the western culture, kindness, selflessness and patience are still seen by many as weaknesses due to fear of being taken advantage of... Thus the belief that being egotistical is the way to ensure success and survival. As long as we are aware of this, we don't have to be "offended" by the behavior, we can simply look at it as the antics of a culture not yet mature akin to children on a playground. What can we do about it? Lead by example

    Good points MX.

I can attest to Blim's post (I also posted something about this earlier), that on JP servers since Crystal Tower 1 and on, it's been really well organized. Everyone knows that B Alliance is MT, and that other Alliances take care of other things. For example, C Alliance on Cerberus always takes care of Wolfsbanes.

I've read in other threads about some crazy trolling that goes on in the NA servers CT / ST / WoD (like people killing off Bone Dragon so fast, the skeletons revive and wipe the entire alliance; or people grabbing Cerberus' Chains and *not* chaining him back up, to let him run rampant killing off other players). This never happens on JP servers; I was shocked to read about this. It's kinda sad hearing about this.

Evry run on Aether is a aggro war between tanks. Is seems most of the tanks in there are FATE tanks. No expeience at all. Just level up through fates and straight to WoD. You rarely see things like Queen Scylla/Xande Clone getting interupted, Wolfsbane or Samurai getting picked up. Usually its just three tanks standing in the main boss cleave. Whenever its asked if anyone wants to be MT, no one responds. The only thing that seems to sort them out is dropping some comment about tanks swinging their peepees at the boss.
If I see my tank pick up adds, they usually get the comm.

One time after the MT spent the first half of the Angra battle spinning him around, not losing hate, but actually turning him every few seconds. I asked if we could switch MTs and she spent the rest of the match calling everyone the worst type of people in the world.

I find in WoD there's always a tank or two that won't OT to pick up adds regardless of who is MT'ing. I'm fine letting the crappy tanks MT as OT is more fun anyway.

MT is the easy job anyway in wod. Adds are what wipe alliances. I just let the other wannabes fight over MT and I'll pick up adds, or jump in of they die/can't keep threat.

If they want it, I say let em have it. Don't get pulled into the voke wars. You will be there to bail them out when they fail.
