    Building a PC

Just wondering how this PC would run FFXIV.. i'm pretty clueless and it will be my first PC build. (I'm a student on a budget).

    Asus Z97-A
    Intel i5-4690k
8gb Ram to Start will upgrade to 16 later
Geforce GTX570 (Is old, but got it as a birthday present last year and will upgrade first)

    Thanks!

Well a 460 could run the old game, which was more demanding than A realm reborn. So GTX 570 is quite a bit better than 460, so youll be fine for ffxiv. the newest gen games might have a bit of trouble though.

It'll be fine in most cases. Just don't get caught up in S-rank lag with max settings on and no effect filtering on, and you won't really notice a huge hit to FPS. Your "biggest" concern (which really isn't that big of a deal) with your setup is probably just the eventual upgrade you're going to do. Beyond that, not an issue for FFXIV.

Yeah, I figured it won't last too long. But finances right now mid uni are bleak haha, so will upgrade later on.

    Thanks guys

That will run the game just fine assuming a few things. Firstly that you're running it at 1920x1080 rather than something much higher (being on a budget I imagine this is correct). Secondly, you'll probably need to sacrifice something somewhere for your playing experience to always be consistent. I actually run with a slightly weaker graphics card but stronger processor and choose to limit the frame rate to 30 fps with otherwise maximum settings. You could probably go the other way if the frame rate is more important to you, or just turn everything up and deal with a slightly more variable frame rate in congested areas.

Essentially that setup is more than adequate. Also, as it pertains to this game as well as almost anything else you might be doing with your PC, 8GB of RAM is enough. Increasing to 16GB will have no discernible effect in the vast majority of situations. If you've got a bit more in your budget the most significant performance increase (for everything, not just this game) would likely be from a SSD if you weren't already considering one.

I would probably prefer FPS to be higher rather then graphics up higher. I'm not expecting to have amazing FPS and Graphics, but would love more info on recommendations on what settings to run with this setup!

Was going to use SSD for OS and a HDD for everything else. They are still quiet expensive here in Aus..

For a "budget" setup, I think that setup is a bit overkill. For what Intel offers currently that can handle the game really well - that could be considered a "budget" CPU - that one is quite expensive. Nonetheless, the 4690K has really great performance and should suit you well for some time.

Although with the 570, you'll still get really good performance with FFXIV, but that's mostly because of that CPU. FFXIV isn't that heavy on the GPU, so you shouldn't have to worry about upgrading your video card for some time.

I run on a worse spec PC than that (4gb ram, gtx570 and an amd phenom x4 955) and play this game on near max settings @ 1920x1080, the only thing I have disabled is objects when not visible and LOD. I get 40fps in busy areas and around 70fps in quiet places like the housing areas. I play with max visible characters and the game only gets a little slow around S ranks and I also play it on a 120hz monitor with the frame rate unlocked.

Hopefully this info is helpful to you OP

    Ohh it is. Thankyou!

Mind you, to the others replying this won't be solely for FFXIV I would like to play other MMO's in the future which is why I was hoping to get a rather decent CPU and Motherboard.
