It's cool, the reason Balmung is a safe server is because of the lock on character creation most times of the week. There is a very small window to make a character there. Any NA server that does not have this restriction can expect to be spammed like my screenshot though.

what really annoys me are these friend requests. why do i have to delete every bot by hand from my friendlist? why is he added to my friendlist before i was saying "yes"?

Why would you even doubt the amount of RMT? It's blatantly out of control...

I get if on YOUR server the issue isn't at kneckbreak but seriously several threads with 50+ pages, 300+ replies and 20k+ views should be sufficient evidence in this case. Not trying to come at you directly but please. Last thing SE needs is doubt that the issue is severe...

Impossible to stop it, very possible to fight it.

What is the biggest cause of RMT? People that want the gil to buy BiS crafted gear/relic materias (critdet) or extreme/coil runs. How to fight it? Never make crafted/buyable gear the best option out there. It always feeds to the RMT market. If the best gear is locked behinf content, raid teams have little reason to sell runs aside vanity purposes.

Also SE needs to take more active role into banning these gold selling bots. Even constant friendlisting is RMT. They also need to add QoL options, not accepting someone's friend request should remove that request from your friendslist. The blacklist/report option should also be shown on the list of options when you click a persons name.

Clean up your blacklist if it's full, blacklist them. Problem solved.

Teensy problem with that, they swap characters constantly. /Shout and friend requests I've seen the same character twice, but not in /tells. The spammers have long been wise to how to dodge the blacklist. A slight fix would be an account blacklist rather than character.

Well I was on Behemoth back when it was pretty much the most populated server, it took nearly a year to fill my blacklist.
On Odin I currently have about 15 people blacklisted in the last 6 months.
If you don't blacklist them, obviously they will continue to message you.

I don't even remember the last time I actually got a tell from one, it's the 1 time a day friend request they try for me. thats it.

If your server is lower population, I don't know about malboro's numbers, it could be due to them going through the lower amount of names quicker.

You rolled on a high pop server that has heavy character creation restrictions so you don't see the problem so therefore it must not be a problem right? Blacklist doesn't work for /tell nonsense on most NA/EU servers.

Those of you tired of people making threads about this...TOO BAD. It is awful, I have removed tells from my main window, it's crappy that I have to do it, but they somehow realize I am doing this and send me friend request non stop .....The name always begins with GMAT..then an bunch of characters. I should not have to log on and /busy. I have been playing these games since UO, this is the worst I have ever seen. My conclusion is that SE is profiting in some way. Give me an option to turn off friends requests, and option to receive tell only from friends and the problem is solved. I know when I want to be friends with someone and I can toggle the option back then turn it back off once the request is processed. There should be an option to turn off free company requests for the unaffiliated as well. This is simple stuff and would shut this down.

These auto-silenced accounts could be flagged for a quick check by a GM and if it turns out to be a legit player who wasn't spamming, the ones who falsely reported the person get a warning. If they get caught falsely report-bombing somebody again, they get a temp ban.

Make it a high number of reports required for auto-silence, say 20-30 reports over the course of an hour - that way it won't be triggered by accident, only by the person in question being a spammer, or the reporters committing harassment.

Then you would endure a brief suspension after which they would endure a ban for misusing the reporting system (which is already a standing rule for the GMs). Any countermeasure can be misused, but that's not a reason to not have a countermeasure.
