The Isle of Val

So I'm trying to understand one thing: was it located near Sharlayan in the north, or the colony in Dravania? Its disappearance was brought up a lot, and the Churning Mists has structures awfully similar to what I presume is the abandoned colony in the Hinterlands.

At the present, I'm inclined to believe that it's closer to Sharlayan proper than the Dravanian colony. It's not on the Ironheart map of Eorzea, and each time it's brought up, Sharlayan is the one seeing things, hearing things, sending search parties, relaying news to Urianger, etc.

If you look closely at the Ironheart map, there is a small island off the coast near the Sharlayan colony. It is hidden beneath the compass rose there, but given the fact that it lies directly below a primary bearing point (as seen by the Rhumb lines extending outward), it has some importance for navigation. This is all speculation of course given what we know about Val and the map, but if indeed this unknown island was important enough as a navigation center, it may be related to Val some way (or at least due to its proximity to the colony).

Hoping we find out what really happened there. Was it destroyed? If so, by whom? Was it hidden or moved? Also by whom? by an enemy or themselves for protection.

Either way, destroyed, moved or hidden. Something there is concerning someone or something else for this action to have taken place. Something has been discovered there that threatens another party (in my theorizing). Doubtfull the Dravanians as they are not involved with the war. Possibly the Ascians then? Or the Garleans.

Maybe it is tied into the revelation of Urianger and the Ascians.

If I remember correctly it was heavily implied that Nabriales used "a sliver of Zodiark's power" (akin to Ultima) to wipe out the Isle of Vale in his quest to destroy everyone who was looking into what the Rejoining (a form of dimensional compression) actually is, and that Krile somehow survived but hasn't woken up yet.

That's part of why I created the topic....I'm thinking the floating structures in the Churning Mists might be from the Isle of Val.
