Thanks for wasting 7 other people's time because of selfishness. gg.
That's another issue with this game. People being inconsiderate of others because they consider other players as lesser beings and treat them as such. It's another example of the "Me Me Me" culture that's so rampant in the West.If all you read my other posts too I don't do coil or statics., so no one wasting time for me cause I have asked no one to set time aside for me. So take your "your wasting other peoples time" and shove it.... you are dealing with 7 other people and their TIME. It is very rude to continue to waste people's time. Many of them set aside adequate time in advance and to just throw that in their face because "RL >GAEM" is selfish.
People that do that are obviously not meant for statics and such, which is fine. I always give people 3 absences then I politely tell them this static is not for them and it is simply not working.

A static definitely requires a time commitment, and randomly deciding to not show up doesn't really go over well with the other seven members of the party. My static had issues with this when we first started into SCoB, and we put up with it for awhile because the people were good players (when they were around) and were friends. In the end it was only hindering our progress so we replaced them. Now my static has a strict attendance policy (though we are more than reasonable in allowing for RL things), and we all respect each other's time enough to adhere to it.
If you can't (or aren't willing to) commit to a set time, then your progress will be seriously hindered. I'm not saying that pugs can't clear, but it's definitely much harder to do when your party is a revolving door rather than a set group.
Two people in my static have been too lazy to go get the minion. xD

That's a terrible attitude. One has to stop thinking about this as "just a game" when you're dealing with seven other real people who invest their time and effort into doing things together with you. If you drop them as soon as something more "tangible" comes along as if they are just text on a screen, then that's just plain rude.
I do Coil because it's the most concentrated fun I've had in the game to date. The last 10% of T9 was such an amazing blitz of focus and adrenaline, it was crazy. Same deal with T12 when I cleared that last night. Clearing difficult fights that you've practised over and over with your friends is a great feeling of accomplishment. I couldn't care less about achievements in this game (though I'm a fervent hoarder of them in other games where it's more relevant) and I glamour all my Dreadwyrm pieces into other stuff anyway. I do it for the experience itself, nothing else.
I agree that it's a shame that the western servers have such low Coil clear rates (I'm on Cerberus - 1.4% ain't exactly impressive), but we're just a different audience than the Japanese and most people don't grow up with competitive gaming like they do. It's part of their culture in an entirely different way than it is for us.

We're talking about in a raid stance, right?
If you do this, this is bad...really bad and rude. People make plans to raid on specific days in statics for everyone's convenience.
You're better off telling your friend "Hey I can't today...or maybe later at this hour.."
Because other people had took time off from family/friends to do a piece of stuff they wanna do. You're screwing them over.
Make sure you DON'T MAKE PLANS on static days/nights. If you can't commit to the times, you need to leave
or go to a different one. This would irritate me because you ruined my and everyone else's time.
You have got to be considerate to other people in the game some times folks.

The worst part is simply that these hardcore fights lock out a major story arc. Which, considering how I recall the way the "raiding community" in FFXI treated the RotZ story progression, is completely insane and bizarre to me.
It's not as major as it seems. It gives answers to what has happened, but it doesn't really hold any baring on anything going forward. Especially since it becomes a "Don't ask, don't tell" story.

Interesting, did someone make a connection to lag issues?
1st JP
2nd NA
3rd EU
well, not representative, but still - you should at least consider it a fragment of the problem!
Edit: It is fun if you travel to NA or JP and play FFXIV... the difference is overwhelming...
Lag is the fallback excuse in 95% of cases when someone has failed to react in time to a mechanic. It's the actual reason the other 5% of times unless your internet currently consists of two cups tied together with string.
PS: I live in the EU and I can count the times I've actually had lag issues without having to resort to my toes.

Yeah, that's bullocks. I've seen lag hit many people and not just me. When I see someone get hit with landslide, and they fly in a different direction, that's lag. And it happens. Alot.Lag is the fallback excuse in 95% of cases when someone has failed to react in time to a mechanic. Lag happens, and it makes some fights near impossible. Titan and T5 is a good example of fights where the fight becomes more of a latency check rather than a skill check. Just don't tell me it doesn't happen, because it happens all the time.
