I know this is not the place for this but... I've been thinking a lot about it lately. I apologize in advance.

2.0/2.1 was very sad for me, because I used to play it while I was still in a relationship. We used to play together a lot. Shit happened, we broke up, I lost a lot of friends and I pretty much ended up being alone in irl. Some of the stuff there still brings some of memories when we used to play together. .-. It's not exclusive to this game but I'm a very nostalgic person... my static broke up, they stopped playing and then I ended up being alone in this game as well. Since my life was only work -> game, I really didn't have anything else left.

In 2.2, I decided to move forward. I've met a lot of in-game friends, and we played together through a lot of content together. Since english is not my first language, people insisted me to join them on TS and I did it eventually. I was terrified. But they were kind and patient. Suddenly, I was able to understand them better and I started to learn more about your language. This became easier for me at that point. We now love to each other, we also talk a lot on TS and we are always connected via Facebook/Whatasapp. The cleared SCOB as a team, despite all the drama in between, friendship prevails.

In pre-2.3 and 2.3, I've met a very special person in game, and we were like "dating". We spent a lot of time together. I became an officer in the FC and I was helping everybody. I joined some hunting LS where I met even more friends and we had a super great time together. I started to see my irl friends again as well.

2.4 FCOB. My static broke up. My FC disbanded. I didn't talk to this especial person anymore. I moved to Gilgamesh to leave everything behind and joined a HC static.

2.5 People came back to Hyperion. They asked me to come back but I declined their offer. However, I created an alt and went back to Hyperion. My first static (2.0) came back, so I decided to spend time with them and help them through Coil and hard content with now having a lot of experience in my CV. My second static, the ones of the 2.2+, also came back and we decided to stay as friends and not form a static anymore. Just play together and have fun. Help people whenever they need it. We joined a nice FC in Hyperion.

So, currently, I'm playing in 2 servers. Gilgamesh for the hardcore content, Hyperion to be casual and stay in touch with my friends.

Sorry if my post wasn't that related to this game's content. D:

The only regret I'm gonna have from 2.xx is not completing the Coil storyline. Half of it being lazy and the other half in not trusting anyone and expect every run to fail. Tho that's not to say I bs during the fights as I give it my all. I don't even care to farm them, I just want closure and lock away 2.xx forever and go into 3.0 with a clean state of mind. I'm tired of cursing the game and it than decides to give me a hand.. And no, watching the ending is worthless if its not my character on the screen.

The only regret I have with ARR has been actually not ARR, but with it's predecessor - I'm regretting now not logging into 1.0 much in it's last few months of service and getting the 7th Umbral Era story completed, which would have meant I would have started ARR with the 'Legacy' storyline instead of the default 'new player' storyline.

Alas, because I did not, even though I transferred my 1.0 character into ARR, I just felt like a new player starting in Phase 4/Early Access even though I stated with classes unlocked and some rare gear like dated equipment, the Hermes Shoes and Onion Helm. But ah well.

Either way, I'm really intrigued how ARR"s story is going to continue with Heavensward.

I think the game is too 'new' for me to have any nostalgic attachment to it so far. I've played a lot of MMO's, and many of them make you feel like you're part of a wide open world. ARR, sadly doesn't really have that feel to it. I remember the first time I visited Lufaise Meadows in FFXI the only location in the world you can see the city from the opening cinematic.

I remember the first time I joined a dunes party, getting stomped by high level goblins and Pugil's using screwdriver to nail the tank to the wall. I remember vividly my very first trek to Jeuno, sneaking past high level opponents and staring in wonderment at all the new enemies like Morbols.

The best way to create memories is to make them meaningful. In ARR, you're given the world to you from the start so it's less enticing. You didn't earn your right to be there, you merely walked the distance. There's no real danger in the overworld, so there are no boundaries and you never feel like you've taken a wrong turn. Without a sense of danger, there's no sense of achievement when you succeed against the odds. Without that, there's fewer memories to be made.

Like visiting the home of the orcs, using sneak and invisible to avoid the guards as you find an item deep within. Knowing that, if spotted, you're as good as dead. Now THAT is memorable. Not running through trash mobs that can barely dent your armor and joining scripted events.

So no, I don't have any nostalgia towards ARR yet. Though I'm hopeful that Heavensward may give us some challenges that we can build some new memories for.

Funny that you mentioned 1.0 story. While I got only my Onion Helm (which I'm still mad about), and transferred my 1.0, I started over as my 2.0 character. Now idk if this was a screw up or iys account base or w/e, if you remember that scene where Cid is trying to remember who he is. He tells my 2.0 character that he remembers me from before. Now this is impossible because my 2.0 character never saw Cid before. It made me lol.

Hmm, I actually have a lot of great memories.

    2.0:
    + Unlocking my first job.
+ Beating Titan (NM and HM) for the first time.
    + Clearing the Praetorium.
+ Obtaining my Gae Bolg for DRG after a long struggle against Titan.
+ Jumping headfirst into Coil for the first time.

    2.1:
+ Clearing all three Extreme Primals before the Echo was implemented.
+ Having "fun" waiting for CT Fates. (Hahaha.. no.)
+ Doing LOTA for the first time was heavy FF3 nostalgia.

    2.2:
    + Clearing Leviathan Extreme
+ Lost City of Amdapor was <3
+ The "pleasure" of Atma grinding. (I still need therapy)
+ Beat Turn 5 around this time with my FC.
+ Not entirely FFXIV related, but I did upgrade from PS3 to 4 when it came out. It was like looking at a whole new world... All the things I could see...

    2.3:
+ The struggle was real in Second Coil.
+ Clearing Ramuh Extreme. (That music tho.)
    + Obtaining my Novus weapon.
    + Hunts drama.
+ Believe our FC got our house around this time.

    2.4:
+ Snowcloak. (Again, just for the music)
    + Beating Shiva Extreme.
    + Working on T9.
    + Getting Ninja to 50.

    2.5:
+ Downing T9 and working on Final Coil.
    + The main storyline.
    + Steps of Faith/The Chrysalis.
+ Getting my Zeta weapon for Ninja.
    + World of Darkness.
+ More Hunts drama. (Not as bad as 2.3's though)
    + The Gold Saucer.

Probably missed a few but those were what I could name from the top of my head.

I would agree. I like many things in XIV and Yoshi P has done a great job of turning around a mess that was 1.0 Launch.

But 2.0+ so far has been very "Instanced" and feels very solo most of the time. Duty Finder is a Blessing and a Curse (and many players in Beta warned Yoshi P about this back then on the Beta Forums).

I'm definitely glad we don't have to spend hours (usually) looking for Parties (ala older MMOs). You can just queue up and do other stuff.

But the other side of this is that since it pulls from Multiple Servers, and there's No Cross-Server Friends List or Cross-Server Messaging / Party Forming (directly), it leads to most players not caring.

You can go into any DF and just run the dungeon / primal, etc. and exit and be on your way. It's convenient, but there's no need to try and make connections.

And with "End Game" being 1 Raid (Coil), that focuses on just 1 Static of 8 Players Only (before later nerfs), there's no feeling of being able to help your Free Company / Linkshell or Friends (outside your Static Group of 8 people Only), or just party with them and try some of this hard content.

The world is very safe and sterile, most of it is just "window dressing." You only need to go out to do Hunts, or random Guildleves, or FATEs most of the time.

There's very little in this game currently that engenders and incentivizes players on the same server to do Community Activities together (beyond Statics).

That being said, I do hope 3.0 ushers in more content that gives us that sense of Community.

I'd love to see stuff like a *scalable* version of Dynamis (up to 64 Players, but could be adjusted for variable size (like they're doing for Frontlines currently)), or challenging areas in the Open World where you can have Sky (Tu'Lia) involving more than just 8 players at once.

Yoshi P *did* hint at eventual Airship Content where you can invite people *outside* of your FC to join and do "stuff." I hope there might be some cool fun Content that happens here with that.

So here's to hoping for the best.
