Yeah, the post size and count remains a nuisance for most of us. Not a word from anyone on why they're even in place, and you can edit posts to get around the ridiculous 1000 character limit anyway. It's been this way for ages though so I don't expect it to change, more the pity.
Only two things I can think of is:

1. Maybe a server space issue? Though this really shouldnt be an issue.

OR

2. Maybe a half baked idea that there will be less troll threads with strict restrictions? Though with good moderation this really shouldnt be an issue either.
