'Worth' is a very relative term. The standard mix for any MMO is getting better gear. Ultimately I would look at your goals. Do you want to make money now? Are you willing to invest in something you may not see returns on for a few months?

I would imagine you could start crafting / gathering in Heavensward with Patricians and the equivalent gear. The higher gear will make this easier and give you an edge on the Market in the early stages of Heavensward and would give you a head start on endgame. Eventually I would think Pre 60 gear will be better than some items, and you will need to upgrade from any level 50 (regardless of ilvl) gear once you hit 60. The Patricians and equivalent will be like any fresh gear I'm sure. Wanting the mats for 10 in order to make 5 nm items approach. Being glad when you get 1 item from a node.
