    Apparently he doesn't have any anti-virus. /facepalm

    All he has is Spybot Search and Destroy, which is just a Malware/Spyware remover.

    Unfortunately he doesn't really have another computer to use to make a copy of the game, and honestly his drive may be the problem - apparently it is a bit finicky. I guess I might end up making a copy for him and sending it to him so we can rule out the disk being an issue...

    Edit: Apparently he has some anti-virus, but it was already off. ._.;

    If the drive has problems reading the disk you can blame SE. A copy protection for an mmorpg?! xD

    I mean that his drive doesn't work properly 100% of the time. I think he had to try to install it twice originally since it randomly crapped out in the middle of the install.

    Ok, so I had him try to install directly from an ISO that he made from his DVD. He still got an error. -_-

    I don't know what the hell to do anymore.

    Tell him to install and, when it asks the directory to install, just put it n a different folder...

    It might want to instal here: C:\Program Files\Square Enix\FINAL FANTASY XIV
    just tell him to add a new path like C:\Program Files\Square Enix\FFXIV

    This might fix the problem. For some reason sometimes Vista keeps a underdated list of files so the PC assume the file is there...but when it goes there the file does not exist, causing this issue. And if this is the problem, just installing in a different folder might be enough to fix it.

    He's on Windows XP, but I'll tell him to try that anyway. Thanks!

    I mean, I told him to delete the entire Final Fantasy XIV folder to get rid of any conflicts, and he said he did that... but I'm willing to try things.

    I hope he didn't make that ISO with the "maybe" broken drive <.<

    Unlikely but overheated optical drives can cause funny issues sometimes.
