    Cannot install the game

    Hello!

One of my friends is trying to re-install the game since it somehow it got royally screwed up, but whenever he tries to install, he gets this error:

CRC error: The file C:\Program Files\Square Enix\FINAL FANTASY XIV\data\5B\20\00\00.DAT doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor.

He was able to successfully install the game once before, so does anyone have any idea what the heck this error means?

Did he completely delete the directories before trying to reinstall?

I have no idea if he did or not. Where would those be found if they're still hanging around?

I have Win 7 and he has XP, so the file structure is different. I wasn't sure if XP made multiple places for XIV like 7 does. It's been a year since I've used XP regularly at home. Gimme a break. :P

I'll tell him to go poke around in the program files and see if there's any stuff still hanging around, and to wipe it if there is.

Ok, he said he's deleted everything XIV related and it still errors at the same place. He checked out the DVD and there's no scratches on it, so it's not like it's getting caught up on that part of the disk because it's damaged or something.

    Any other ideas?

Did he disable his anti virus software? Especially the realtime protection. He could also try to put the discs into a different computer, make an image and try installing with that.

I've told him these suggestions, but he hasn't gotten a chance to try anything yet.

My only issue is that he's not exactly super computer saavy, so I doubt he knows how to make a disc image. I don't know how to either honestly, but I know how to burn ISO's onto a DVD. I've just never actually made one myself... Can you suggest a program to use for that?

Make sure the original system files have been uninstalled, not just deleted, or there will still be records of the program scattered around the computer.

    Control Panel > Add/remove programs.
