    Gilspam.. ugh! :X

So, I've been logged into ff for probably 90 hours by now. At this rate I'll be able to play for another 40 before my blacklist is completely full... and every single one so far is from gilspam. Could square enix PLEASE do something about this? It's gotten so bad I have one window dedicated for just tells, and I don't pay attention to it anymore. Here's my solution:
add the ability to right click on player's name in the chat ---> report gil spam. Window pops up to confirm (or cancel) the request. If cancelled, things continue on as if the report attempt never happened. If confirmed, player being reported is unable to send any more messages to the player. If enough reports are filled against spammer, they are either automatically muted, so they can not comunicate in game for a period of time, or automatically banned for a period of time. (This ban is subject to review by a GM.)

I really hope this gets fixed. If the gilspammers aren't bad enough, I saw not one but TWO hackers using some sort of teleport hack less then a hour ago. Now, i don't know a whole lot about archers - which is what both of them were - but I'm fairly certain you can't blink about 30~m in less then a second at level ONE.

If it wasn't for the fact that I'm playing with friends, I'd quit final fantasy because of these two issues. /endrant

Ohai, you must be new here. First of all you can circumvent to 1000 char limit by using the "Edit post" ability.

You are not the first person to complain about this. I don't know what is going on about the RMT problem, but there are a few things you can do. 1) Don't buy gil. 2) If you don't anticipate getting a /tell from outside your FC and linkshell channels you can use /busy to block all tells, 3) If you see someone doing obvious botting (like say 4 people in the same outfits auto-killing the same mobs), initiating a trade with them will get the botting hack to stop; bonus if bot in mid fight, which will cause mob to kill bot. 4) Report suspicious activity using the Support Desk, and point out said suspicious activity to other players and encourage them to do the same.

Oh yeah, and don't buy gil.

Think of the RMTs as FFXIV's welcoming committee to new people, a welcoming committee that never goes away even when you're not new anymore. One that never goes away. Ever.

Can't blame you for contemplating quitting over it though. I know I would have quit if I had started playing on a server that didn't lock out character creation all the time and therefore slow down the bots.

If my first 100 messages were all sent within an hour by spambots, I would have lol'd so hard and not taken the game seriously.

RMT = ff commercials. Sooner or later you'll just get used to it. Oh and make sure you say hi. They like that.

Please don't suggest this as a means of dealing with alleged rmt bots.

This is against the terms of service and is a bannable offense.

    Whiston is probably correct unfortunately.

It wouldn't surprise me if you're more likely to get banned for interrupting bots than bots are to get banned for botting.

So my recommendation: Leave them be. Report them if you feel like it, but know that SE has a team of 3 people to deal with it. 3 people to deal with the ocean of bots. So action probably won't be taken anytime soon.

Best way to fight RMT; find out what makes it so popular-->getting something of benefit for the gil. What is it? BiS crafter gear (in a lot of cases) and run selling are the major turning points. Why do people sell runs? It's often to make the ends meet to be able to afford those BiS items, as this game doesn't really give full time raiders much keys to make gil.

My proposition? Never make crafted/buyable gear BiS. That way, the benefit of gil is taken away. That in turn is also gonna affect run-selling, reducing it by a large margin. I do realize that some people RMT for expensive vanity items, but in any games I have played where the best gear can't be bought the RMT hasn't been anywhere as bad as here.

Also take more active role into banning those gold selling scrubs faster.

I'm glad that when I started, I didn't see any pm sent to me. It was later on they started to bug me.

As a fellow player on Jenova I feel your anguish. Best bet is too go on /busy status pretty much all the time. You'll have to remember to drop busy status to get into a party for something like Hunts of Fate groups. Also might want to drop it before going into raids if you want to see the 'Ready Check' prompts.

If you don't like having the red busy face up all the time the next option is muting or changing the PM notification sound to something less aggravating and moving /tell to its own window.

As far as blacklisting. Try not to blacklist after one message find the ones that send multiple tells in short spans and messages from multiple names advertising the same site.

Other than that not much you can do to combat it. Just deal....
