Just as an info: SLI or Crossfire DO NOT DOUBLE YOUR VRAM. The information has to be saved twice (once on each card). The lesser fpslag in towns for those people is due to their HDD being way faster (at least that's the case for everyone I know :P)
Also the texture size isn't that big. Even if you lower the texture detail the fps hit in towns will still be big. That is 'cause the game is split into many small files that are not accessed in order. SE just failed to implement an async loading mechanism like in UDK.

I'd like to see your specs too. I run the game buttery smooth even with framerate drops to the 30s or 40s but I heard someone say that an SSD is why, and I have FFXIV installed on one.

It's weird because when I run Fraps it says I get 45-60 FPS but when I rotate my camera or run around it seems really stuttery sometimes.

Just imagine the loading lag with the PS3 bluray drive... epic failure if released like this.
PS3 will probably run like FFXI ran on ps2, you will install most of the game to the HDD, but you will need the bluray to play it.

Also i can almost guarentee that the loading lag is because of the physical speed of HDDs, the best option to lower loading lag is to invest in a SSD to install FFXIV on, I have heard that this can reduce loading lag alot, it could be the optimisation of the game or it could just be that so much information needs to be loaded at once.

Right... everyone has to buy an SSD(for 150 bucks) for this game. Or they could just fix it? <.<

I didn't know that about SLI/Crossfire. Well that shoots my theory out the window about the cause of the stuttering problem.

    2) The game's default texture size is so large that it eats up the texture memory on a video card
Varies according to your screen resolution. At 1440x900, it doesn't ever exceed 600Mb VRAM. You can tweak this by changing the rendering settings.

And yeah, get a SSD and put FFXIV on it. I learned that from FFXI.
