Now that I've got the top level on the first of the job skills, what should I do next, apart from dungeon running in the lower level dungeons? (I managed to fate grind through much of Lv49 succesfully).
How will I need to start getting top level gear? (I could find something useful at the Maelstrom place in Limsa)

There's also Operation Archon, which I've started, which'll involve the Cape Westwind trial.

You're level 50, but most level 50 content (including relics and most level 50 dungeons) unlocks after clearing the Main Scenario, so that's your first step.

Finish that main scenario, also, start progress on your relic weapon. You can get a lot of it done while following the main scenario.

Along with capping tomes though the lvl 50 dungeons that you must unlock. There are like 18ish of them.

Start the relic quest, also initial goal should be to unlock an instance called Syrcus Tower, which is part 2 of Labyrinth of the Ancients. You can get level 100 gear here. But plenty of great guides online by people with more experience than I, have a bit of a google and you will find lots of info. Still plenty to do!

Where gear is concerned, the Crystal Tower series of quests is your safest bet once they become available. The sheer number of players who can help pick up the slack left behind by low level gear you'll have, and even the earliest dungeon on the chain, Labyrinth of the Ancients, gives a solid 100 Soldiery tomes; a fairly slow amount, but a substantial amount of tomes needed for i100 gear (compared to your i50 / 55 going into the endgame) that can upgrade to i110. As stated above, the second stage, Syrcus Tower, outright drops i100 gear, and the tools needed to upgrade the Soldeiry-bought i100 TO i110 as well. And when Poetics add up, the entire Crystal Tower chain can give you free upgrades for the i120 to i130 Poetics-bought gear.
