Raising my Chocobo and Pedigree needs some Help

Hey there! I'm been taking my time ranking up my Chocobo while doing everything else and got her to Rank 20 already.

Now the max Rank is 40, correct? And from what I've heard retiring earlier than Rank 40 is very bad and you'll lose your Chocobo and everything you've worked for as well as the MGP lost raising it.

Now my question is I want to raise my current Chocobo to the max rank and possible get as many good stats on it for my future races I plan to do it and I like to swap out the Chocobo Silence I for a Chocobo Dash II (considering that's among the best, if not the best, ability for a Chocobo to have) so I can win the higher rank races with more ease.

However looking at the Permits for Grade 8 Pedigree Chocobo Breeding I was wondering if it was worth getting them? I hear it takes a long time to rank them up and some times you might get horrible skills form the breeding and maybe lackluster abilities... which can or can you not remove their abilities later?

I want to get a fairly good Racing Chocobo to help me win a good portion of the time, I don't expect to win all the time, as I like Chocobo Racing despite the winnings MGP not good compared to TT winnings.

Anyway do you guys have any tips and suggestions for me to raise a pretty good Chocobo and avoid messing up and losing a lot of MGP from trying too hard? I head that Chocobo Racing is practically dead now considering the mechanics behind the breeding, pedigree, and whatnot.

Never buy a grade chocobo that high unless your literals already at 7. The most you can pedigree up to is +1 so at most just get the next higher.

I would suggest getting him to 40. Retire him and give it a whirl making sweet sweet birdy loving with a rank 2 cover you get. You can do this up to 10 times so if it doesn't work perfectly just get another cover and try again. You have a cap on your stats so really unless you just wanna get into higher ranked races there isnt a point to level him past 40 just yet.

Also dont use any of your mgp on food from inside the saucer for now. Your gonna be ranking him otherwise so just use the food from bentbranch for now. If your losing at higher races btw or not getting first alot...go ahead and do the lower till your ready if you ace that one. You end up making more in first in like a 60 then 2nd or down in an 80. As you go you will be ranked a lil higher and take a lil longer to level but it kinda evens out.

So buy the next rank Pedigree in order then. So doing it out of order will not work or mess up the breeding?

So get my Chocobo at Rank 40 first and then retire her and breed with a Rank 2 cover Chocobo? So I have a Female Chocobo and I need to get a Male Chocobo Breeding Permit to breed for another Chocobo, right?

How does this 10 times retry work? Just re-allot the roll on what stats it will give you and accept it when the message prompt appears?

And about the Stat Caps, so there's no point of ranking my Chocobo past Rank 40 and just breed from there and see how it goes and then try to max out the stats on the next Chocobo?

There's food at the Bentbranch? I didn't know that or I must've forgotten, does it use Gil instead considering that you mention don't use any of my MGP for now.

Currently at the R21 - 40 Races my current Chocobo only got 1st place once after the patch where they "fixed/tweated" the Chocobo Races so I've gotten 2nd Place a few times but score on the lower places more often now. So it's better to do these races first (at and below R60) to earn more EXP for ranking up my Chocobo, correct?

Anything else I need to know about?

If you buy higher it wont mess it up at all...its just not worth what you will spend because at most its only going up 1.
So yeah you get the opposite sex cover. Let em go to town (this will take actual time so check back later) and see what happens (you should get a skill or passive...like mine was stamina 2)! Stats are generally improved. I imagine it wont take a lot of tries but feel free to. So yes get him to 40 and breed.

At bentbranch there is a vendor with the other racing quest guy (to the left of the stables) You can buy grade 1 food for gil. Its honestly all you need right now. Im finding that at ped 2 sometimes i get +2 to a stat instead of one.

See what works for you as far as xp goes. As far as racing, everyone has a different strat. I have a very stamina centered bird so i literally hold down dash the entire race. I play the stamina game and hope i get something as i go or my ability is a cure for frenzy and that gives me some stamina.

Oh, I see. So that's why, OK then I'll start off with the Rank 2 Breeding Permit. So stats on my Pedigree 1 will be inherited to the new Pedigree 2 Chocobo? Or something like that?

So the Grade 1 Food, what's recommend to get a High-Speed, High-Acceleration, with lots of Stamina Chocobo? Or at least a Chocobo with high Speed and Acceleration? That's the type of Chocobo I'm going for.

Alright then, I'll just have to unlock all of the R-Rank Races... how many are there again?

I uhh am not sure how many races there are...you might see r80 eventualy...thats the top ive seen.

Check your stats and adjust for what issues you have. Acceleration is so so but high speed is great along with stamina.

Your chcobo will inherit more so from your partner chocobo which is a mystery. however you are more likely to gain his skill/trait. You always have a few tries to get what you like or you can just have him relearn a new skill at 10.

So if the cap limit is 100 on all stats I could max out all of my 'bo's stats, right?

So if my offspring Chocobo inherits the skills from its parents I could add the Chocobo Dash II on my current Chocobo and when I breed them and the offspring is born I can have the new Pedigree 2 Chocobo will have the Chocobo Dash II skill along with what ever the other parent's skill was?

Just want to be sure so I don't screw up and blow 60k MGP out the water for nothing.

uhm, dont buy the skill for 60k mgp. There are other ways to learn abilities and most abilities you can buy have a higher lvl (like choco dash III) which you can only get after breeding or when ranking up (you get a random ability at rank 10, if you dont like it you can unlearn it with an item that costs 500 mgp and you will get a new one after ur next rank up). Also you will get only one of the parent's abilities after breeding, its 50:50. This inherited ability will be the first of your new chocobo and cant be changed later. The second is the one you get at rank 10 and can be reset. When you retire your chocobo you can choose one of the two abilities, which then has a 50% chance to be passed to your child after breeding. I wouldnt worry too much about your abilities on your first chocobos.
