The CG's caught up leaps and bounds making the idea of total immersion possible. I mean, look at some of the AAA titles of last year, practically movies! Sure, this stands to run afoul of the uncanny valley, but if VR can surpass that, we have gaming's next big frontier. Hell, I'm stoked for CCP's Valkyrie, just hope the gear is affordable when that becomes a thing. Though yes, we've all seen this coming if anyone's ever played/watched .hack or any of it's inspired titles.
For everyday gaming no. Look at how popular the Nintendo Wii was, you could move to control your character but did other console manufacturers try to emulate it, yes, but it failed. Most gamers want to sit on their arse and play, not move around. What good is VR if you sit on your fat arse. It has it's uses sure but it wont be main stream.
