They have/had skeletons that pop at night unfortunately people complained. Their first set of notorious monsters appear only during certain time frames according to time of day/weather, but unfortunately people complained about that too.

...unfortunately many of those same people are here in this thread already complaining about the very things they had a hand in taking away from the game (well not really, I mean I kinda doubt their specific input even registers with the developers for the most part compared to their counterparts in the JP forum). Still kudos.

I'd like for them to find a way to again introduce some tie-ins to weather/time of day and they have talked about doing this several times. Unfortunately due to complaints from segments of the player base anything like that likely would have to pass this test:
Will it run the chance of killing someone who is not directly seeking it out?
Will it cause someone to have to wait for more than 5-10 minutes to do the piece of content they are wanting?
Will it give an "unfair" disadvantage to someone who chooses to ignore it because it is too complex?
If the answer to any of these is yes, I think chances are we won't be seeing it soon.

So I think having many effectively dangerous night zones, powerful elemental bonuses during weather, ties to crafting/gathering, or quests/events/future content of any kind tied to these things is pretty unlikely.

I agree with the OP 100%. And exploration in general should be more dangerous. And with dangerous I don't mean a level 99 monster in a level 25 area.. ..with ranged attacks...

Here is one thought I've had that I feel would be neat for this game...

    [slight spoiler storyline spoiler...]
In the main story that one quest out in thanalan... the desert gets this dense fog and howling wind and you see the undead creature floating across. I think it called it an Ascian? It would be nice if they could make one (or more) of those spawn in dense eerie fog weather in thanalan. Even if it were to be an illusion. Or a super awesome NM.

A "fear of the dark" kind of effect would be nice. Would certainly add some excitement to exploring around.

Doesn't even have to be undead things. Could be nocturnal creatures. or beastmen doing patrols around their camps at night with torches, sentries around the edges of the camp etc. During the day the placement of beastmen would change to suit the change in visibility.

You know for this reason we should not have a forums maybe tanaka way was better o.o look what happening to FFXI now when people are being listen o.o look at what happen too wow. I know it about money but dam games that don't listen most of the time are better. SE need to just make there own idea and stay with it.

Behest 1hour then 30min then back to 1hour o.o leves Good sp ---> bad sp ---> good sp o.o make up your mind SE don't always listen to the player base when you don't have too.

Much like Terraria, Minecraft, XI and other games, let loose the undead during the dark hours.
Would love to see Zombies stumble around, Skeletons rise from the earth as well as ghosts, bats and demonic spirits floating around in the darkness of the night.

Of course keep the captiral cities and surrounding low leve areas safe at night, but the further you get away from civilization you get the more chance you walk upon haunted grounds.

Least for me this would add to giving a feeling of excitement when traveling far out (will i make it there in time before night falls?), making it more of an adventure when exploring further reaches of the maps or when walking to far away camps.

Would also realy like to see old ruins, graveyards, ship wrecks, monuments etc, added to the scenery of the world as landmarks and to serve as haunted spots from where the undeads spring forth.
They used to have this. Skellies would spawn in Cedarwood at night and there was a skellie on Traquil Paths that would spawn at night as well.

    I agree 100% with OP.

    Should also have:

    -different music at night
    -alot darker
    -different battle theme for undead
    -sound effects (crickets etc...)

All of these things would be easy to implement and would have a big impact on making the game more alive. Imagine all the lore that undead alone could bring to the game... along with some exciting side-quests.
