    FFXIV Dev Updates

    Whats going on?

(TL;DR version: if you cant read what i have to say then dont comment)

Everytime something new gets announced I'm like "what??"

I thought that having physical levels and ranks for your class skills was a really good idea, just poorly implemented. What I thought would have been a much better and more fun way to fix them would have been to keep both. I think what should have happened was to have physical levels be what your ability points, hp, and mp would be based off. This would be your characters level. The progression of physical levels would have to be a bit slower, maybe you recieve 1/5 experience points as you would skill points. In essence you would have to get 5 classes to rank 50 in order to get physical level 50, (but thats only if you did 5 classes to 50 and didnt rank up any other classes, you could get to physical 50 before hitiing any rank 50 if you ranked all classes at once). Then your stats (ability points, hp, mp) would stay the same regardless of your class (although you would have the option to reset all your ability points, whenever you wanted, as long as you are in a town, maybe there would be an ability resetting counter).

The way they want to do it now with removing physical levels, just doesnt make sense. If my character grabs a sword and starts practicing getting stronger, fighting enemies. I reach rank 50 with sword, I have max abilities, alot of hp and even a fair amount of mp. My character is strong and physically fit now. So I go to grab a lance... wait.. what?? now Im super weak again...It doesnt make any sense. So if Im holding a sword, woot super strong, but soon as i put my sword down, there goes my muscles. The game was designed to have a physical level, and you would gain ranks in the weapon you choose to wield.

The Devs are changing a lot of the fundemental ideas this game was built on and designed around. If you are gonna change certain core elements of the game they need to make sense, otherwise you will end up with a bunch of meshed together ideas that dont really complete each other.

other things that have confused me by thier direction is the armoury system. Accesory slot cost, inventory management, HQ items regarding +1,+2,+3, the crafting and gathering jobs, environment collision detection, enemy AI, jobs, and more

I just am confused by the direction of this game, but remain optimistic, I know this game isn't being designed around me, but are the majority of people satisfied with whats been going on? If you are satisfied will you be keeping your account when it goes pay to play?

Essentially they are remaking FFXIV from the ground up. One system at a time. While we all watch and hope it turns out ok.

I agree with you that some systems of this game just needed fixing rather than overhauls, but they chose to redo every system rather than fix them.
    Why?
SE will never answer that question so its pointless to ask it.

Personally, When they made Magic auto regenerate(1.15?), That was when the game was at it's best. It's still getting better, but I really liked the way it was. I definatley HATE the idea of losing my Physical-Level. =(

I'm satisfied with all of the planned changes.

However I was similarly upset when they bumped group size down from 15-8 and didn't give us alliance content, I was also disappointed when I heard they were suspending Battle Regimens in 1.19 and hope they make a return soon.

I'm pretty ecstatic about them removing physical levels though and fixing stats/class switching. I like the idea of alternate progression methods outside of just leveling your main class, but I think they could do a much better job than the physical level system so I look forward to what they are going to do with it in 1.2, and what other systems they have planned for the future.
    • Quested abilities with jobs sounds awesome.
    • Limited point allocation in 1.2 sounds much better than a fully free physical level system which completely ruined balance for stats up until now.
    • I'm hoping also for something tied to chocobo's/maybe companies
    • I'd like to see more unique Materia playing a big part in player progression/customization
    • I'd like to see a completely new system as well tied to the main quest storyline/magitek or something in the future as well, and I'm sure we will.

Point is if they weren't replacing physical levels with anything I could see your disappointment, but they seem to be replacing it with stuff that is much better and better to balance. So that is in my opinion a great thing. Many of these systems a very few people are going to miss (phys level always had limited usefulness, and did not lead to the amount of customization people thought it would or imagined it did), are also what caused many people to quit the game, because they simply didn't work well at a fundamental level.
