Try losing a retired pedigree 4 chocobo like I did, and all because the retired chocobo looks exactly like the worthless covering permissions that littered my inventory (also lack of coffee)

I didn't come here to complain, though I wanted to warn people to be extra careful with retired chocobos; they can't be returned via one-time account item restore.

Doesn't the game throw an idiot warning box when you try to retire a chocobo below rank 40?

There is a warning but it's not clear what it is that it's warning about.

It tells you that chocobos below rank 40 are lost if retired, but not that this chocobo you're trying to retire would be lost. The reason that's a problem is that, due to the confusion between rating and rank, people doing it think their chocobo is already above 40, so that that warning wouldn't apply to it.

If it instead said something like "Your chocobo isn't ranked high enough for breeding and will be lost if you retire him. Do you want to retire him anyway?" then it would be clear that you shouldn't select "Yes" unless you're trying to discard him.

This exactly. Another way to fix it would be to cover chocobos with another method than through the need to retire them or make it so that you can't retire him before he's actually rank 40 and if you really need to "get rid of him" there'd be an item you'd need to buy and use that item in order to do that, or something along those lines.

The way it is working now, is just prone to people making a mistake with it. That's not how it should be at all.

Why are people at all confused by Rating and Rank

It is two different words, spelled differently, with several different letters used. Why think they are the same thing... when if a person takes 30 seconds to look over their own chocobo info in the Gold Saucer sub-menu.. they'll see both, with different numbers listed? Trying to under people's logic in thinking they the same is far more confusing than thinking they are the same thing.

Jubs is also amused by people thinking they know what they doing, investing gil/mgp into something.. but then realizing they knew nothing. Lesson of the day... Research anything and every thing before investing a damn thing, including time.

Thinking back, he had a seperate level rank effecting his stats and race rank. Although this distinction was never made clear by any npc if I needed to get a different rank to 40 from his race rank.

Is there any way I can get my Chocobo back or the breeding pass? There is no way I want to level a new Chocobo from scratch after everything with my old one being for nothing. So this confusion on the breeding and retiring of chocobos has ruined Chocobo racing for me completely and taken away one of the few reasons I still had to log on. The Chocobo was Swift Nexus for the Character Nexus Limitless on Balmung.
Why did you decide to make a duplicate topic? We already explained what you did wrong. And that you are vastly exaggerating what it takes to level to rank 40, which it appears you weren't even close to attaining.

This is what you got because you were not yet rank 40.

This is what you WOULD have gotten if you were rank 40+.

At your pedigree, the possibility of seeing monsters on the optimal race track is effectively zero until roughly rank 25, but specifically rating 41.

If you cannot attest that you saw any mobs on the track, then you NEVER attained rank 40, guaranteed.
