    Guess I'm done chocobo racing..

I got my Chocobo up to race rank 43 with head start for his ability, so he was very good. I spent all my mgp won getting him grade 3 food and also spent a fortune of gold on class 2 food. I didn't want to get rid of him, but reading about max levels I decided to retire him so I could breed a better chocobo. I bought a grade 9 female breeding permit and I retired him and got no breeding pedigree.

Now I'm finally realizing they have a rank which levels with experience seperate from their race rank, with the other rank needing to be high enough to get the breeding pedegree. Either way either its bugged or confusing, sucks I can't get my chocobo back or a pedigree for him, so I have nothing to so for any of the work/money I invested in him. Making a new grade 1 chocobo from scratch isn't something I want to do.

and that's the main reason chocobo racing is almost dead, only a few weeks after launch. they tried so hard that you can't finish the chocobo race content too fast that most people do not even start. the whole balancing problem on top of that...

oh and it's getting worse: with higher pedigrees you will need MORE exp to lvlup...

Im breeding a pedigree 8 atm so I can say that yes, it does take awhile to level up and breed better chocobos but the fact they have a 2nd pop up window about retiering chocobos BELOW rank 40 (lvl 40) should have been a heads up that something was wrong.

You dont mention what pedigree your chocobo was and im curious if you don't mind. If you retired yours and you dont have the previous chocobo to rebreed in case something like this happened then im assuming you tossed it once you acquired your current one or the one you have was just a pedigree one? Unless you have pedigree 9 with max stars then using grade 2-3 food is worthless.

If it is in fact your first chocobo and its only pedigree 1 then I dont see why you come on here and try to make a big deal out of it if it was. Getting to pedigree 9 takes about 2 months at a steady rate.

Also the terminology for them is rank (lvl), pedigree, and rating (estimated racing tier)

    Rank 43 or Rating 43?
And what's your chocobo's pedigree level?
It only takes 4-5 hours to reach Rank 40 at pedigree 1-2.

He was pedigree one, but I invested over a million gil in him and all my earnings in triad, races, etc. Since I didn't realize none of the stats matter when I was building him up, so I only fed him grade 2 and 3 food. All his stats were over 50. While I could start a new chocobo, not feed him and still grind him high enough level regardless of where I rank in races, if there is no way for me to access the one I already did so much work on, I don't feel motivated to do anymore.

I thought when he retired, he would still exist and I would have some kind of access to him. Be able to visit my retired chocobos I use for breeding. I didn't expect him to just be deleted and me with nothing to show for it, due to whatever distinction the game makes between rating and rank. I feel there has to be a way to restore him, I don't pay a monthly fee for this to happen.

I haven't even logged in since this happened, as this has completely demotivated me from the game. Although I've preordered heavensward already, so hopefully I'll get my money's worth out of that. However if there is someone I can contact to get my chocobo back, maybe it will pull me back into the game somewhat, overlooking the various flaws.

The chocobo need RANK (= Level) 40. (later chocobos even start with such a high rating).

If you retire the chocobo before this, you will get a warning, that it will be gone. It's no very good warning, confused be before, too, as I simply wanted to... well trash one, which got horrid stats (always the worst from both parents).

    For info:
You needed around 1800 races to get a pedigree 9 chocobo and reach Rank 50 with it. This will be less now, since you get more XP. But it will be... let me guess... something between 1200 and 1500 races.

You are not the only one who has got confused with the rating and rank of the chocobo's. Check this thread here I made when GS got released -> http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ring-is-bugged.

Admittedly, it can be confusing, namely if you talk to other people who get confused by similar word use lol. Personally, I never had a problem with the terminology, except to clarify things whenever talking to people that didn't understand the difference. But I'm the sort of person to point out issues in an argument due to wrong word/terminology use (which typically ends up using wrongful points of defense because of said misuse), only to be told "semantics" as their rebuttal lol.

Rank is the same as your chocobo companion, it's their equivalent of levels earned through exp. Rating is their class/tier... think of it like weight classes in sports.

    I'm sad, with chocobo races

    - I was expecting chocobo races for a while, leveled my companion to rank 20 but then it was for no use, oh well they didn't wanted people to have advantages prior implementation ok
    - then I tried races, only 3 stages real stages with obstacle variation, ok, well, I hope it wrong get boring and chocobos level faster
    - they don level fast, is a grind of gil and points I want for turtle mount etc...

I sadly abandoned the thing I was wishing for since... FFXI "races", now I only stand in GS for catpot...

You won't get your chocobo back because when you retire it, it specifically mentions if it isn't level 40 then the gold saucer keeps it.
