We know now that they look dragon-like, but are not dragonic
Again, disputed. This means that they show ALL the signs other than a few incongruities. Science is FILLED with this.
If the lore team wanted to say they weren't dragons, they would say they're not dragons.
Instead, the words they chose (and the lore team is VERY good at choosing their words about this sort of thing) imply that there's more than meets the eye.
This tells me we'll be learning WHY they have draconic features at some point.
You don't establish and delve into the existence of an entire society that:
    A) Is known to mess around with genetics (see: G'raha Tia, Unei, Doga)
    B) Is known to conduct experiments on dragons (see: the entirety of the coils of bahamut)
and then go and create a vague statement like "IN DISPUTE" without following up on it.
They are draconic in nature. Just as Miqo'te are feline in nature. They even follow the common "habits" of dragons from mythology: Dragons would either remain in one place for extremely long periods of time, or wander around causing destruction.
Au Ra have hung around Doma for extremely long periods of time, or been nomadic and war-like.

And again, the only other plausible option for what they're supposed to be "part" is demon, and there's not even a TINY bit of reference to that even being close to a thing in that blurb. Occam's Razor applies in this instance.

Also, as I mentioned elsewhere, the naming convention may be exclusive to the Doman ninja clans, or it may not. This is because Yugiri, Karasu, Oboro, and Tsubame's surnames don't actually exist in the Japanese version.
The only consistency is that they all have a single Japanese name, and each of these names is...kind of stereotypical ninja names.

Speaking of the Japanese version...the Japanese version of the website for HW doesn't mention dragons at all for the Au Ra. It just talks about the sexual dimorphism, horns, and scales without mentioning anything about their origins.
What does this mean? Unknown. But it really tells me the Au Ra origins are important if there's this much of an inconsistency.

Also...take a look at the Xaela and then take a look at the Dragoon armor. Notice anything?
