As to the RMT issue, that's a problem with every single game that has trade-able currency. Not as easy to combat as most people think. SE could do some more about it, like account wide ignores that don't tie to the blacklist, much like WoW has done.

He's actually kind of right, and neither of those two games have been relevant for a long time. I'm sorry to say. I loved FFXI when it was fresh but that was a decade ago. The biggest problem is that consoles are generally out of date and fall behind PCs around 6 months after launch. As a result, and because developers want to spread their product across as many platforms as possible to maximize profits, the level at which games are developed are held back. The PS4 I think is capable of being in a position where it doesn't hold this advancement back too much, but in the long run it still will. The biggest reason is because with a PC if you start lagging behind you can replace a part here replace a part there and get back up to speed. With a console you can't do that. You can't just add more ram or update the graphics processor so it causes issues, especially with games that are connected cross platform.

Simple truth is FFXIV should have never been developed for the PS3, it was an aged console that is in the final stretch of it's lifespan and everyone knew PS4 was just around the corner. They should have waited for PS4 but their wallets got bigger than their brains so here we are.

Eitherway I'm not so sure the blacklist thing is an issue of limitation on the PS3. Who you have listed in your blacklist could just as easily be stored server-side as client-side and very well could be for all we know, unless someone from SE has come out and specifically stated that it is stored on the client.

The only real limitation I could see in that case is the PS3's ability to process a very large list of names that it needs to display when the blacklist UI is brought up, but even then that can be dealt with.

You missed the "current gen" part apparently. Also, Phantasy Star Online is an instanced dungeon lobby based game, and as such, not really even an MMORPG (at least nothing like FFXIV).

PC master race bigotry aside, the development of FFXIV for PS3 benefits all FFXIV players through a broader base of players, more players, graphics optimization for PS3 that resulted in much lower hardware requirements for PC users as well, allowing even more PC players to join. Until such time as a developer of FFXIV posts to this forum confirming beyond doubt that the BL is limited to 200 solely because of the limited system memory, the point is moot. Prejudiced comments about console gamers, console systems or similarhave no place in this or any discussion and simply reveal the limitations of the mentality of those making the comments.

No one said any prejudiced comments about console gamers. It's a fact that the PC is better when it comes to what it can do compared to a console. If you take that as some insult, than you might possibly find other facts prejudicial as well: The grass is green. The sky is blue. Farts are smelly (well, maybe there is someone whose farts smell like roses, but I've yet to discover this person).

I feel for PS3 players, I do, but sorry, it is holding the game back. That's not even something that can be argued.

The one comment about Japanese not wanting to replace outdated technology with newer and better technology, you mean? That comment? Because not seeing any other posts that could be considered offensive to console gamers.

Also, that comment is partially true. Japan has largely ignored the PC in place of consoles for a very long time, and are just starting to pay attention to the PC. I'm a fan of JRPGs so I pay attention to that kind of thing as I always found it a bit annoying how I could never really find many JRPGs (and even the few you can find are either really old ports or just plain terrible JRPGs) for the PC.

Honestly, the console thing is pretty much a Japan exclusive issue. They don't want to replace dated equipment. I don't think supporting that kind of gaming community works for an MMO in the great scheme of things. MMOs depends on constant updates and improvements, usually increasing the system requirements with time. A prime example of this is WoW. Vanilla WoW could probably run on a PS2, no way earth today's WoW could though. They couldn't have done all the improvements to the game engine for example, when a console is already being squeezed out out of every bit of power. People will quit for this very reason, and new players will be turned off once they realize that they game is being held back. So the increase in subs will eventually turn into a great loss.

SE needs to let the PS3 version die already. FFXI is THE prime example of a game being held back by a console. I mean, heck, just google it and see all the complaints.
