It's both.
It's both.
i was going to say. At least in this instance you will need to clearly define your terms. I have "casual" amounts of time to play but I love playing games that take skill like the "hardcore" Demon/dark souls.I don't like the "hardcore" vs. "casual" dichotomy either. Plus people can't agree on what defines a casual vs. hardcore player. I guess my point is that people seem to rather uncompromising if something doesn't meet their expectations even if it is designed more for a different demographic at the time.
Everyone wants everything to fit their play. When it doesn't they QQ. Since there is more than 1 person playing the game, EVERY piece of content will have someone QQ about it. People are different and this have different expectations, but as an MMO there's are to many people to have a 1 size fits all. (OR even a 2 size cuz this HC vs casual drama is stupid and tries to dumb down a complex playerbase into artificial buckets)
If everyone complains about a game, it is either:
*a masterpiece that has a something for everyone, but everything to no one
*a terrible game that just sucks.
There is a skill factor in the game. Some people can do something once and have great reaction skills and raid awareness and get it while others are constantly making mistakes and may never get it.
Some raids are beyond some players skill level and they can't beat it without the nerfs. They just don't want to admit they can't do something. A lot of casual players tend to think they aren't the reason why they can't clear coil but they really are since they can't get good.
There are also those inbetween, those who usually do their dailies and weeklies since in weekdays they dont have time for much else, and peacefully chill out in the world.
But also likes to take up on challenges on weekends and dont mind it to be a hard game either, in fact even welcoming it.
In terms of difficulty I'd say the game has content to offer to both sides.
In terms of time investment...It's not very "casual play" friendly. I mean, if you can only play 3-6 hours a week, I wouldn't recommend it.
Casual. Is FFXIV a Casual or Hardcore Game? (Thinking About Player Expectations)
You can choose to play hardcore, no life it, all that noise, but the game's based around being casual friendly. A lot of hardcore players left when they realized this early in 2.0, some stuck around and are seeing how quickly the content well runs dry. I personally play XIV because it's so casual friendly, I don't feel forced to do anything - only what I want to do and when I want to do it.
This is strictly my opinion, but it's a extremely casual game. Even the raids are easy compared to other MMO's I've played.
I agree with the people saying that there isn't a definite definition of casual and hardcore.
Casual is usually used as an insult by those who think themselves as being hardcore. For them, casual content is pretty much everything that they're not interested in, which is usually content that isn't technically difficult. So while Coil is hardcore content for them, getting a Zeta or Lucis to them is casual content.
For casual players, hardcore content is stuff that requires a large amount of time to complete. Coil is hardcore because you need to practice a lot and learn how to play better. But time-consuming activities like a Zeta and Lucis are hadrcore too for them.
I seriously doubt this is the case for most of the people complaining about content nerfs. Most of the people complaining just don't want the filthy casuals getting through the content.
Always funny that the forums are full of badasses that consider everything in the game to be easy.
