Au Ra Naming Conventions Speculation Thread

So.. I haven't seen anything about this pop up nor seen it skimming through the main thread about the Au Ra.

We have the name of Yugiri; which is our first known Au Ra.

What ethnicity do you think the Au Ra draw their names from?
Do you think male and female names will differ in a way like Miqo'te?
What kind of surnames do you think the Au Ra would take up? Title monikers like the Highlanders?

I'm interested to see what everyone thinks and if we could get a Dev post in here to shed some light so we can all start thinking of what to name our Au Ra characters.

I always thought Yugiri Mistwalker was more of a Doman name. Just take a look at the full name of the NInja NPCs.

With that said I always thought the name Au Ra is a good indicator of their naming convention. Maybe they'll have 4 letters total, but that may not be enough.

Ex: Ra Va, Va Tu, KO Ra, Ma Ko

Not to sure about naming conventions, but I get the feeling that they'll be a more matriarchal race from the presentation. I'm almost hoping for this because of the size difference between male and female, I'd find it both funny and interesting to see that the women rule.

But, the fact that they made sure we knew the women were "elegant and mysterious" while the men were simple "Sporting muscular builds". Kinda sounds like the women lead and the men labor.

So, if that becomes the case, its something else to think of for naming conventions.

I was actually hoping to follow a japanese style convention, as it would be a great excuse for me to use a Japanese name... But now I'm worried and I have to know the convention so I don't mess it up.... I mean perhaps Yugiri is so conservative because she was adopted by Domans? we really don't know.

with the last name with mist walker being something like that so, i think it is a japanese based really

My speculation is that they will utilize a combination of Celtic and Anglo-saxxon influence alongside Irish patronymic prefixes. If I don't see Bilbo McSwaggins as an NPC, I will be very disappointed.

Well... I think it's pretty guaranteed that no matter what the naming conventions are, the number of Priscillas and Seeths in the world will explode like Bikini.

I'm pretty sure people already jumped on reserving the names since SE hinted that Yugiri's race was going to be the new race way back then. XD

Yeah but back then people were seriously stuck on Viera or Bangaa (or Viangaa, heh). This race looks nothing like those.
