Some nodes grant an extra yield (2 per swing rather than 1) provided you meet certain stat requirements.

There are skills at level 30 and 40 that increase yield (Blessed Harvest and Blessed Harvest II for BTN, King's Yield and King's Yield II for MIN). The level 30 skill adds one extra yield per gathering attempt, or its advanced version at level 40 adds two.

There are skills at level 20 that increase the yield specifically of elemental shards by two. (At levels 41 and 50, traits expand this to working for crystals and clusters as well as shards.)
